I'm Canadian and lived in several cities as well as more rural areas. I've traveled internationally from a young age, visiting probably 15 countries in total. I grew up in a multicultural city (Toronto) and was almost a minority in my school.

I have a BSc, MSc, and PhD. I'm highly educated and have a great career. I'm not a redneck from a flyover state who is afraid of people who look and think differently.

But I do like my culture and understand that my society's peacefulness, progressive approach to gay rights, women's rights, etc. is not the inevitable path. Many people from other cultures do not have the same ideals and priorities.

Cultures change, that is obvious, but you don't have to actively change the demographics to favour people from countries who make homosexuality a crime, treat women like second citizens, tolerate caste systems, etc.

If you bring someone like this over, they aren't going to necessarily embrace our views and ideals. It's not like we are right and they are wrong and will see the light. If you want to maintain tolerance and a progressive society, you have to encourage the populations that share these views.

But hey, it's the flyovers who are afraid of muslims that are the real problem. Not Saudi Arabians treating women and gays like shit or Africans butchering albinos for folk medicine. It's those evil white people.
