There's nothing inherently wrong with plating. I think what rubs many people object the wrong way is the minimalist modern art compositions. Conspicuous "white space" on a plate with minuscule food proportions, drizzled and dripped with sauces in a way that makes them difficult to actually consume. The most excessive examples generally occur at the high end, where the food is already quite good, and extra details take on added importance. Some people like it, and others mock it, but it's not apt to make them stop going there.

I don't think anyone objects to functional yet intentionally aesthetic arrangements, with plates balanced with portion sizes.

I was a pastry chef up until a little while ago
Unfortunately I didn't get to spend much time in the fridge and also had to help customers out when I wasn't sheeting croissants and shit on the sheeter machine.
Wasn't all I imagined it to be.
There wasn't much plating involved really either. Just had to make the pastries look good on their own then we'd slap em on trays. It was a bakery only though. I'd imagine at a restaurant you'd have to come up with platings, but honestly simpler works better for desserts I think. nothing like the post up top unless you're in some hipster gastro shit or some michelin star operation

Decanters are useful since it allows you to store your whisky for longer! Your bottle is 70cl but your decanter should be smaller at around 50cl to keep the air out.

And the whiskey on the rocks comes from people putting chilled rocks in their drinks, so whisky rocks arent a meme really, its if you want to feel old fashioned. And IMO its good they dont chill much, since then you taste the whisjy better.

If I legit care about the people I'll dive into my pantry (or bedroom if it's been a long week) and get my proper bottles, but for general entertaining nobody really drinks liquor straight enough to warrant it. I've found you always need a mixing liquor and a sipping liquor as they're so wildly different requirements. The mixing liquors go in the decanters so people don't get snobby over the half ounce of vodka in their 16 oz drink.

Right now Science has totally fucked over a lot of our agriculture. Most of our crops, meat, and poultry has been bred or engineered for maximum possible yield. We get tomatoes that look picture-perfect despite having been roughly handled during shipping, but they're flavorless. We get cheap chicken but again, it's flavorless.

I've got nothing against the idea science being applied to food or cooking, but IMHO the goal needs to be to improve the TASTE of the food, not to make it as cheap as humanly possible while ignoring quality.

Insisting this is of any quality.
I mean, it's not bad, and I usually have a bottle of it lying around, but I've seen so many scotchbabbies claiming to be sophisticated lauding the "exceptional quality" of this.
