Is it true that in the US people are often very scared of leaving food out for even a night or so?

what else do you espect from the same people that store their napkins on the fridge?

Leftovers don't exist in this country. We don't eat until we're full, we eat until we can no longer stay awake.

Only extreme germaphobes worry like that, the same people who wash their hands 90000 times a day and worry about "cross contamination" yet they get food poisoning 200 times a year.

Most of us are guilty of eating pizza or other dishes that have been sitting out in room temperature all day. I always forget to put shit in the fridge and eat it later, I'm always fine.

Why would this pose a problem when we all own refrigerators?

Depends on what food it is and what you mean by "leaving it out for a night or so."

I won't leave meat products (cooked or uncooked) out for more than an hour. I can't imagine milk left out overnight would be any good the next morning, and even if it was it wouldn't last long after that anyway. Eggs, I don't worry too much, but the way they're prepped for sale in America means they need to be refrigerated to stay fresh. I keep condiments in the fridge but I wouldn't worry if I forgot to put one away bc of the vinegar. I keep butter on the counter already. Fruit and veg I don't worry about at all.

Anything else I just go by the manufacturer's directions/common sense.

If I forgot some leftovers on the stove and discovered them the next day, yeah I'd throw that shit away.

Food is pretty cheap in America. Much cheaper than a hospital bill if I got myself sick.

I wash my hands enough times and worry about cross contamination and I never get food poisoning.

Amerifats are far too paranoid about food kept at room temperature. Part of the reason is the advice from the government is geared to the lowest common denominator in the amerifat population who are too stupid to follow basic safe and hygenic practices when cleaning utensils and surfaces, as well as preparing and cooking the food. It turns out that in the amerifat population the number of people falling into that category is alarmingly large. I guess it has something to do with all that freedom.
