If you want to have the best pizza of your life then leave whatever place you live in and come to Naples. In the end it all comes down to what you like. one thing americans know about pizza is toppings, you have tons of different toppings and they all look good. In italy we are just starting to appreciate different toppings.
This said, you should not forget that this topic is about crust and i've never had a thick crusted pizza that was better than the thin crusted pizza we have in Naples...
And no, it's not a meme. i live Here in Naples and every person here likes a different pizzeria because they're all so good that details make a huge difference. we're talking about HUNDREDS of pizza restaurants and i've never had a pizza that i could call bad. Leave Naples (just 40 km away) and you will have a hard time finding a good pizza

This is true in the sense that in much of America pizza is viewed as a vehicle for toppings. The downside of this is that little care is given to the quality of the pizza itself or the toppings put on it - in most cases both are garbage tier. The cheese used on most American pizzas is awful, and the toppings are Hormel level. It's treated like fast food here, made from the cheapest shit possible and loaded with grease and salt to balance the breadyness.

There are good pizza joints here turning out Naples style pizza made with good quality ingredients and cooked in wood burning ovens. These places are luxury pizza joints, usually costing 2 to 3x what "normal" American pizza costs.

I can imagine you think Naples pizza is undercooked but if you let it cook more then it becomes a stiff piece of bread. The dough stays almost elastic when cooked properly and this is how we like it. By the way it's not raw by any means, it's just less cooked than one would expect. And I love it
