I have a few eating habits.

I only eat food one dish at a time.
As an example, if I'm given a plate of steak, mashed potatoes and roasted carrots I will eat the food in the order in which I like the least to which I like the most. In my head I always thought of it as "saving the best for last" and at the end of the meal my palette would be finished with the thing I most enjoy.

So I would eat it as so
Mashed potatoes
then carrots
then finally the steak

I will take hot chocolate mix and pour it into a cup, the pour cold milk. I will take a spoon and eat the hot chocolate mix and drink the milk.

I hate carbonation in my drinks because it hurts my throat, so I will purposely swirl around drinks to get the carbonation out. However I don't need to do this to a drink like a Guinness, it's not carbonated in a traditional sense.

If a food is typically a finger food and is rather greasy (pizza or eggs sandwiches) I will eat it with a fork and knife to keep my fingers clean.

I know a lot of this sounds autistic, but I'm not a picky eater. I will actually eat foods I very much dislike, such as pizza and egg sandwiches. I'm open to eating all foods as well. No one really notices these habits until I point it out either, I don't make it a big deal to let everyone know. Apparently my grandfather used to eat food in orders like I do, which is odd because I don't ever recall seeing him eat.

I did that all through my childhood and early adulthood. What broke that for me was working in restaurants and becoming a chef, plus getting married and starting a family. Now I get completely OCD about food in an entirely different way. But yeah, I have fond memories of eating that way. It was.....pleasurable, I guess you'd say.

Here's something weird; I think that might be a common genetic trait, because my son's eating habits are EXACTLY like my father's, and they only eat meals together maybe twice a year (because we live across the country from my parents). So exact, it's fascinating. It's so interesting to see how predispositions skip generations.

That bit about your son reminds me of my stepfather and stepbrother. My stepbrother is the pickiest eater I have ever seen in my life. Literally McDonald's chicken nuggets every single fucking meal of his life and doritos. Stepbrother's grandfather is just as picky, and refuses to eat new food. My stepfather will eat anything, although he has extremely low spice tolerance.

I do the same thing. Ive run into two issues. On holidays that have big meals like Christmas or thanksgiving i can never finish my stuffing (which i consider the best part) and when im eating as another home as a guest they assume im avoiding eating something on the plate.
