For some reason waffles get to have whipped cream and fruit on top but pancakes don't

I don't see why pancakes shouldn't be allowed to have these things, but they aren't, and so waffles win

On the other hand, though, pancakes are allowed to have a side of sausages or bacon, which more than makes up for the lack of whipped cream and fruit

But on the third hand waffles can have chicken on them, so waffles win yet again

pancakes require far more skill to make and ultimately have a better crumb and overall texture.

Do americans eat other iterations of waffles and pancakes? On a more mainstream scale I mean. There's the german pancake, the crepé/swedish pancake and the thinner type of waffle than the typically belgian one you tend to see a lot in the US.

Waffles are just lazy pancakes. With pancakes, your first batch where you are dialing in the cook-top temperature and greasing surface means they are guaranteed to be inconsistently cooked or stick/burn. This is also a manual process where you have to stand and watch them to know when and then how to flip them.

Waffles are almost entirely automatic. Just pour the batter in, pull the iron down, and walk away until the timer goes off.
