Another day of beer drinking! And yet another fantastic stout from Mikkeller, i don´t like their other styles all that much but the stouts still speak to me beerwise.

Probably the best smelling and tasting beer with vanilla as the primary adjunct! Very heavy beer though.Love it.

So beer general, drank some, made some, loved some?

If you're trying to have minimal glassware fore the maximum effect, I'd recommend a tulip glass. Just about any beer can go in a tulip. This is coming from someone who has more beer glasses than regular ones too.

Now drinking: Kleiburg Quadrupel Poorter. I taste more porter than quadrupel. Roasty, coffee and dark chocolate-like taste, and some licorice in the aftertaste. It has cardamom and licorice in it.

The brewery has an unusual background. It's affiliated with a protestant 'monastery', which is basically a small community of like minded people living together in a part of a flat in De Bijlmer, a concrete jungle that is part of Amsterdam. It was founded last year. They apparently decided that a monestary needs a brewery, so they hired a young lad who had been experimenting with homebrews for a while.

Yeah it's normal. Sometimes yeast/protein/whatever form together in a beer over time.

With any old bottle of beer that I expect to have this (lots of Belgian styles do) I leave the last bit of beer in the bottle and don't risk pouring all the sediment in there.

Some of these Tired Hands Milkshake beers end up looking like snowglobes with all the floating yeast stuff in them. In this case the beer tastes better with all that poured into the glass though. I tried decanting them before and it avoided the sediment but didn't taste as good.

I just tasted a Westvleteren 12, and I gotta say it is just as good as people say.

It's a literal flavor explosion.

It's quite potent at 10.2% or so, but it's not at all too alcohol-y. At first you get a bit of yeast and alcohol, as is the norm for Belgian trappist beer, but then afterwards you get a huge kick of flavor all over your mouth. It fills your entire mouth and also warms you up.

Very, very good beer.

>> No.8020428

>>8020312
Yes it is still fine. High abv beers generally are not going to become bad anytime soon.

With beers like imperial stouts (Woot Stout is one), some people intentionally age the beers for many years. Stone's Russian Imperial Stout is a common one for this and there's a thing people do called a "vertical", which means opening bottles from consecutive years and comparing how their flavor has developed.

After 5+ years it is unpredictable and there is a chance that any beer might change for the worse but it also might keep developing. Your Woot Stout isn't any worse than it was a year ago, it's potentially better.

no way. West 12 is very good but I would prefer a rochefort 10 over it in all honesty. The 12 is good but can border on too sour/bitter of an aftertaste making it a bit less pleasant than that of a rochefort 10 for example. It depends though, how you serve the beer/your own taste. I tried this Gose beer in the Sam Adams Summer variety pack. It was an interesting beer, anyone have any recommendations?

Really loving Old Speckled Hen and a couple other british ales, It's hard to find a ton of them in LA though. Only a couple bars carry them.

I spent the last few years in New England and it seemed like every other bar had OSH on tap.

Drinking a few of these. Favorite year round beer from NG easily. I got a whole bunch of NG shit from my aunt and uncle a week ago so it's all I've been drinking really. Next time I'm in wisconsin though I want to try anything from Karben4.
Not my picture btw

I recently discovered traditional witbier and it's pretty good. 6.0%+ abv don't hurt either. Pic related is what I get when I don't have 20 bucks to spend on a six pack.

Don't know that one, but a lot of unfounded hate for Sam Adams. Sure it's not great but for a basic "Can find just about anywhere" lager, it's fantastic. Cold Snap and Oktoberfest are also great.

Does beer expire? I got a couple of almost decade old cans of Budweiser

Budweiser tastes like shit when it's fresh, so it shouldn't make too much of a difference.

K4's Fantasy Factory and Idiot Farm are both excellent

Oh my God. AVOID "HARD ROOT BEER". So called "root beer" that is just vanilla flavored malt liquor.

I have never had diarreah like this before. I keep almost shitting my pants and running to the toilet. This is right after drinking it, not even getting a nights sleep first. This is terrible. Specific brand is Canadian "madjack hard root beer" by molson-coors.
