This hurts me as an Irishman. I can't quite explain why, but it's like seeing a bag of drowned puppies; you want to stop and help, but you know that the damage is done and the only thing that you can do is to keep on walking.

Red Breast, all the way, Jameson if there's nothing else going.

Cont. I was really disappointed they wouldn't sell me a glass of the 15 at this pub in Dublin on the last day before heading back home last summer. I think I understand their reasons, though. I'd had a bit of the 12 before, I was still in my early twenties and the bottle was still sealed. Buy a bottle of Angostura. Lasts for years and you can use it in cooking as well. Each cocktail only needs a few drops but it's worth it.

Make bitters with everclear. Literally the only use for ultra high proof grain alcohol.

Make an orange tincture or something like that and use it to make decent cocktails, chum.

Laphroaig Quater Cask or Lagavulin 16.

Both really well priced every day whiskies. Specially Lagavulin 16 can be found on sale a lot.

Why do I hate the taste of whiskey? Even expensive ones make me gag and vomit if I have more than tiny sip or two. It's more than simply "being a pussy" because you all seem to genuinely enjoy the taste and aren't choking down something you hate.

Maybe it's just not for you? Any other liquors you like? I like whiskey but some of the peaty stuff isn't for me. You just have to try a bunch of them to find where your niche really is. Japanese stuff is great and really different from the traditional breweries. The real trick is finding them though.

>> No.7699712

There's a local distillery that makes a rested whiskey I really like.
It's not exactly a bourbon, but that's what it most closely resembles.
Otherwise, Ardbeg is a good Islay Scotch for the price.
Lagavulin 16 is next on my list when I have the urge to burn $100.

My preferred is JW Black Label. If there;s none of that (as is usually the case when dining out) then Devil's Cut because it's pretty good for the price you pay.

The 50% ABV Wild Turkey is also good. Maker's Mark ain't bad either.

With food, of course I drink wine or beer, depending on the meal.

But if I reach for a drink without food, it's usually whiskey or a dark beer.

I'll drink anything, but with limited funds, I really see no reason to go run out and drop a couple hundred on some tequila or rum or brandy that I would open only rarely.

The only trouble with everclear is the bottle has this opening. A 190 proof bottle of alcohol u wAnt to pour out a fucking tiny bit at a time. Why couldn't they make the opening like most whiskey bottles, where it comes out slowly.

I pour out a bit of everclear, it comes gushing out, I lift up the bottle and I get sprayed with what is basically gasoline on my hand every time.

What a shitty bottle design, I'll be sticking with evan

>> No.7703114

>>7703105
That's a flame arrestor so if alcohol vapors get ignited because you're pouring yourself Everclear while smoking or cooking on the stove the flame gets stopped before it enters the bottle and explodes.

There's a similar system on Bacardi 151 bottles. Fire safety.
