The first thread went pretty well so I figured I'd try this again; welcome to Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread 2.

To start things off I'm going to ask four things...

>1: What are some must-see resources for anybody who wants to begin cooking their own meals? I don't mean buying a Stouffer skillet meal and warming it in the pan but actual cooking.

>2: As far as the three big pizza, burger, and sandwich chains go, they being ( correct me if I am wrong ) Domino's/Papa John's/Pizza Hut, Burger King/Carl's Jr & Hardee/McDonald's and Blimpee/Jimmy John's/Subway, which are the best and worst/why?

Where does one buy Morakniv-brand kitchen knives in the U.S and how much do I pay? I can't seem to find them anywhere INCLUDING on Amazon.

4: I just bought pic related; how did I do?

Are these potatoes still ok to eat?

1) Best current beginner guide would be Good Eats by Alton Brown, IMHO.

2) I don't eat fast food.

3) Google "Mora Knives".

4) Meh, not bad for a starter set, but IMHO the large square griddle thing and the small nonstick pan are redundant to the larger nonstick pan. It's also missing a large, tall, stockpot as well as some kind of non-nonstick skillet for when you want to generate a fond for making pan sauces.

Good to know, thanks. I was going to buy the bigger set of these but I unfortunately lack the money to do so. I settled for these because these were well-liked by customers who've used them for a long time and the brand is reputable.

Speaking of reputable I need to get some knives; I currently have none and sadly googling ( and even e-mailing Mora ) hasn't worked so I'm thinking I'll buy another brand. How do you feel about pic related? I know it has a knife block but I'd be washing every knife I took out of that block before using it on food. I know "Block" should stand for "bacteria lock" because cleaning the block itself is near impossible.

I personally wouldn't get those; serrated knives are great for some tasks but they aren't very versatile at all. I would recommend buying individual knives that fit your needs instead of a set. That way you can tailor your knife set to fit exactly your needs.

Perfectly fine. Remove those twigs, cut out the eyes, peel generously and cook thoroughly.

Half of your last thread was people in unison telling you to buy a Victorinox/Forschner, and you come right back with this shit.
Fuck off, and pics of that T-Fal set or it didn't happen and you're just trolling.

Washing them as we chat. And yes, a lot of people did tell me to go buy a Victorinox and I'm not against it but I really don't want to give that company my money if I can avoid it. I'll just leave it at that.

I have really fresh eggs, what's a good hollandaise recipe? I want to make eggs Benedict. Picture very related

Buy a victorinox 8" chef's knife, 4" paring knife, and a serrated bread knife. You should be able to do most things with that combination, then buy blades as you need them. Can't beat a good butcher's knife for cutting steaks/chops though.

>What is the best way to take care of them

Just the standard practice for nonstick: never use metal utensils in them, and be careful not to overheat them or it will burn the coating and ruin the pan.

Finally living the twenty-first century dream, moving out into my own home in a couple weeks.
I'm going to be taking the change as an opportunity to change my diet, but I'm terrible at planning or being creative.

What are some of your guy's favourite healthy(sh) bachelor eats? I'm thinking I'll probably have a lot of wraps and things. Chicken in the oven, frozen vegetables kind of deal. Got to keep it easy enough to sway me from takeout. Your folks experience in this?
