I've bought kefir twice, but the second time I really didn't like and had to force myself to drink it.

I think I must've bought one with fruit the first time, because the second it was way too sour and the smell before it hits your mouth is unbearable.

"Champagne of dairy" indeed

I was forced to drink that shit every morning when I was in elementary school, it sucked.

The liquid was thin and felt very acidic going down. Any attempts to flavor it only made the taste of the actual liquid more prominent!

Honestly? It's all clever marketing. It's literally the same shit that's always been around grocery stores. The ethnic (greek || swedish || sand nigger) yogurt craze is environmentally damaging, and you should feel bad for supporting it.

Well, to me proper kefir is diy, with kefir grains you were given. I don't think an industrial product would be very good.

Like kombucha. I haven't had any decent commercial kombucha and gave up looking for it.

>> No.7590677

We have something very similar to it in Sweden called Filmjölk (don't know if there is a english word for it).
Pretty much grew up on the stuff. I've never really had cereals/müsli with milk, which seems like a terrible combo to me. I've alwayd had it with filmjölk instead. Or kefir, stores have it most of the times too.

There isn't even leftover whey in the yogurt making process, except maybe Greek yogurt. All the other yogurts I know consist of everything that was in the milk.

Store bought is soured from longer storage, and is sourer so it can survive longer storage.
Neither of these qualities help each other.

Did your greens eventually ferment?

>> No.7594526

i like the stuff but don't get it a lot. it's a SCOBY in comparison to the cultures in yogurt and much easier to make on your own since it doesn't require warmth. you just put curds in some milk, then wait a day (i think). now you've got a consistent supply of kefir and more curds than you'll know what to do with. maybe make cheese.

do know that the cultures are passed down from generation to generation, and you'll find different flavors if you get them from different families. try not to get curds from a brand since they're labmade and are harder keep for long (if you plan on making your own)
