I will 've making a tomatoes sauce and want to use a wine. My objective is that it adds a sweet Smokey flavor and darker color.
I'm thinking a red wine, but I don't know which one.

If you want some of the fruit of the wine and for not that much extra from basic table wine, I'd try a Rioja (aka Tempranillo).
