German restaurant I frequent in the US run by Germans has good food. Schnitzels, all sorts of sausages and some meat stews, the food is slightly heavy fatty, but drinking beer with it goes very well. The sides with the dishes are pretty good varieties on cabbage, potatoes and stuff like that, nothing done too crazy, tried lots of food, nothing struck me as unsatisfactory It's not refined cuisine, but it's somewhat simple efficient to the point. My favorite cake is German, Black Forest Cake.

Bavaria used to be a rural state. The composition of most traditional food items (pork, potatoes, cabbage, kraut) still represents it. Compare it to the bible belt in the US with their equally heavy if not heavier food items.

I was not insinuating you said anything was wrong with it. Augustiner is unironically the most popular beer with Bavarians. I usually go for the regular Vollbier.

Different regions have different specialties, just like here in the US.
And, most of the food that people think of when they think of German food is Bavarian, but that represents only a small taste of what Germany has to offer.

There are heaps of good beers. Ask ten Bavarians what their favorite beer is and you would most likely get 10 different answers as there are still lots of local breweries, not even counting the microbreweries.

If we're talking old timey Bavarian foods (yeah, some should rather be called "southern German" or "originally austrian" but I'm not gonna go fully autism here), here you go. Braten stands for roast.
- Schweinebraten with potato dumplings
- Sauerbraten with bread dumplings and currant jam
- Obatzda with Brezen (a cream cheese mixture, served with raw onions, typical beergarden food)
- Käsespätzle (compare it to mac n cheese), combine it with apple chutney and lots of roasted onions
- Pork Schnitzel, obviously, with potato salad
- Schupfnudeln (thick potato noodles) with bacon, onion and sauerkraut
- Rindsrouladen (beef rolls, there are different recipes for them)
- Steckerlfisch (it's fish on a fucking stick)
- Leberknödelsuppe is a favorite (liver dumpling soup)
- Zwetschendatschi as a dessert (plum pie, basically)

Just from the top of my head. And jeez, there are thousands of types of sausages. Everybody knows weißwurst, obviously but I think pretty much every town has their own types. Quite honestly, in my opinion theyre pretty much all the same (just like bavarian cuisine is mostly meat, potatoes and cabbage) but then, I'm not an autist about it. Oh well.

Try to get your hands on some regional Starkbiers. The ones that end with "-or".

I'm the cook in the family. I prepare all meals. Everyone is banned from my kitchen unless they are bee-lining back and forth to the refrigerator or pantry for snacks.

My wife invited clients from Germany over since we live on a lake and have a nice picture window facing it. Mountains in the background, pine trees, fresh fruit borne - a real All American sight.

Since I'm such a pig head in the kitchen, my instructions were to cook German food. Okay. No problem. I don't know shit about German food but I know the universal rule - simple and stereotypical always works. I bought a lot of dark stout beer, I fried potatoes cubes and made some outstanding, enormous schnitzel.

Here's the trick - feed them as much alcohol as you can before dinner and everything they eat is the best thing they ever tasted. After that night, I believe I was more of a diplomat to my wife's company than she was.

God I fucking HATE people like you.
You are undoubtedly a mediocre 'chef' who doesn't use spices, doesn't know how to prepare normal portions, and gets cook books for his birthday that he doesn't read. I bet your spice 'rack' looks like a collection of spices purchased by a man with alzheimers who doesn't know where the spices are stocked in Wal Mart and who didn't have enough money for spices, only salt and BBQ rub. You fucking arrogant cunt, you are just scared that any member of your family could outcook you and expose your hilarious mediocrity.
