Who /canned shrooms/ here?

>> No.7235961

I use them in some of my midwest crockpot/casserole recipes. Basically when it's about nostalgia more than taste.

Mushrooms are readily available year-round where I live, so why would I buy canned ones?

I can't think of a single time in my life when I've had canned mushrooms and thought that they tasted better than fresh mushrooms.

Salt.

>>7236002
You can just buy fresh mushrooms and add your own salt. Canned mushrooms probably have an excessive amount of salt, anyways.

I agree, that's why I don't like canned mushrooms. I was just answering the question.

Ok.

I keep a can or two handy in case I make something that needs them, and I've forgotten to get some.

canned mushrooms have a certain flavor that fresh mushrooms don't although I like both.

Is there a way to make canned mushrooms not taste like the fucking can?

>>7235961
This. I occasionally use cream of mushroom soup to make some casserole abomination (usually out of nostalgia). I really cannot understand why people would use them instead of fresh mushrooms on a regular basis, yet they must because the product is still around.

>> No.7236069

>>7236066
Throw them away and use fresh mushrooms.

fuck mushrooms are delicious, sometimes I'll fry up just a pack of fresh mushrooms and some shallot until golden and just eat that with a side salad

I do pretty much the same thing but I like to fry up some chopped bacon first and then cook sliced mushrooms and onion in the bacon grease, add some thyme and garlic and then mix in the bacon again at the end so it stays crispy. That and a salad makes a great meal, maybe some fresh bread too.

This, sometimes I want to make something that needs mushrooms. I don't use many mushrooms and they have a terribly shitty shelf life so I keep a couple cans instead of A: drive all the way to the store just for a few mushrooms that don't add that much anyway or B: cut mushrooms entirely from the dish. Canned shrooms are better than no shrooms, and unless I'm making a dish where mushrooms are a key ingredient like stuffed mushrooms, I'm not fucking driving to the store and standing in line with a bunch of niggers for five button mushrooms.

>>7236164
Just find some way to use them the next couple of days, it's not hard. Put them in a stew, casserole, soup, pasta, carbonara, whatever. You don't have to get them often but there are so many ways to use them up when you do.
