How do you go about eating canned sardines? Is it even advisable to do such a thing?

Just get some crackers or a crusty bread,
Treat them the way you would an aggressive cheese or cured meat

They are great for you. I just pull them out with my fingers and eat them straight. Kinda messy but fuck it.

Like everyone else has said, and most everyone else is likely to say, just put them on saltines with your condiment of choice; they're a great way to try different hot sauces.

While they're nutritious and can be quite tasty, don't pretend that they're anything more than cheap, smelly canned fish.

I usually eat them when drinking.

Sardines are delicious. Sprinkle them in the lightest dusting of flour and sauté quickly. Eat with toast or pasta and some cherry tomatoes.

If you have roommates or a girlfriend I'd warn them before trying the fisherman's eggs people like to recommend.

Your house will smell "fishy" (in the way that turns people off of fish in general) for at least 24 hours, and there will be no ambiguity about who's responsible.

Different brands of sardines vary quite a lot, don't buy the cheapest ones on the shelf.
Brunswick sardines are pretty decent and available most places I think.

Look up the sardine avocado sandwich. Alton Brown's recipe maybe? It is a fairly unoffensive way to eat them to see if you can handle it. They are great for you and cheap, so yeah you should if you like them.

Highly recommend King Oscar. The difference between food and bad sardines is huge.

And don't do it if you have roommates, unless they're some kind of orientals

If you are going for it straight out of the can, pay the premium.

If you are making soup, or frying/roasting them , you can get the bulk stuff. I've seen them as cheap as 10 us cents an ounce.

Only freeze leftovers if yo intent to cook them as well.

They're either skinless/boneless or not, and will say on most packages.

If you're worried about not liking the bones (they're just a little crunch) buy double layered; they're smaller and usually better quality.
