So what's your favorite type of restaurant design?
Me? I like a nice rustic atmosphere. Makes the meal feel really cozy.

Would places like chipotle be considered rustic?

If the food is amazing and a good value I don't give two fucks about the design. I've eaten standing at a plywood shelf at a hole in the wall place because the food was great, it only cost $5 and that was all I felt like spending at the moment.

But I'm probably most comfortable in a French bistro.

I'm a big fan of the old school seafood restaurant feel, with wood paneling, low light, lots of booths.

I'm day drinking so my google skills failed finding a good picture of what I'm talking about, but it's a place that feels fancy, but also a place where the food is no frills fresh and they'll give you a plastic bib with your lobster because they haven't changed since the 70's.

I'm a fan of the beer hall/garden style. It's rustic but with benches, posters, and flags. Beer halls are lively and communal, like a tent at a state fair. Sometimes they have live music. Usually you're seated with strangers, if it's not a seat-yourself place.

Oh y'know, drop tile ceilings, fluorescent lighting, speakers with wire running across the edges of the walls, carpeted floors... the usual.

I for one like the feel of traditional English pubs, especially if they have a fireplace going.

Low light, windows are small and covered with blinds.
Booths.
Wooden tables.
No tacky shit on the walls or hanging from the ceiling.
And no fucking light fixture hanging 3 inches above eye level over every table.

Seconding waterfront dining. I like to see the water while I'm eating. Watch the boats go by. Feed the seagulls, when permitted.

Rustic, as much wood and/or stone as possible, dim lighting, fireplace, pots and pans and other random junk hanging all over the walls.

Basically like a medieval tavern but without the tacky LARP atmosphere. Damn, it's hard to explain what I mean. There was this tiny cramped and dirty tavern in Portugal that captured this atmosphere perfectly. The staff weren't LARPing, it genuinely felt like not much had changed since the middle ages. Ungodly delicious food too.
