honestly, lots of other breads compare, but of you're in the US there aren't many decent bakeries. panera bread is the best most people have access to, and at that quality, yeah, bagels are the way to go. I personally prefer a wide variety of german/swiss breads. If you can find a local bakery that isn't a huge chain, try out what they have. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Calijew here, don't you feel stupid paying $12 for a coffee and bagel? I know I certainly do when I go into LA.

I'll have to admit, one time I tried making burgers with bagels in place of normal buns and I liked it a lot more. It felt more substantial and was a better platform for toppings that I thought it'd be..

Those fucking jews cant even serve some bread without cutting a hole into it to save up on dough.

No seriously, whats up with that hole?
I'll never get it.

Every bagel thread...

The bagels are dense. If there was no hole, the center and outer layer would be unevenly cooked. Donuts have holes for the same reason.

Bagels hold a lot more and don't get soggy and they are chewy and don't just dissolve in your mouth. It's the perfect bread for putting greasy shit onto and not having it fall apart in your lap. Biscuits are the worst. Eat a breakfast biscuit with greasy meat and egg and the thing is literally covering you and everything around you because it falls apart so badly. English muffins are pretty good also, but croissants don't stand up well to the steam while sitting under a heat lamp and they basically have no texture when you eat it like that. Now a croissant with some cherries and whipped cream on it or ice cream even and it's heaven in a bowl. But not on my sausage.

Foccacia and baguettes are better.
