I'm just used to "burger" referring specifically to a ground meat patty sandwich. I went to Brisbane, stopped in some pub, say "Korean-style pork burger" as a special, and figured it'd be some kinda ground pork thing with ginger and sesame oil and whatnot. Instead I got a pulled pork sandwich. You can get a "breakfast burger" all over, but it's just bacon and egg on a bun. It's just odd to see "chicken burger" refer to a fried chicken sandwich.

But how can a national identity be based on something so mediocre? I had to look it up later to confirm it wasn't a practical joke. Kind of like the fairy bread thing or your misspelled dim sum. Or the "world renowned" terrible wines.

If you go to a proper bakery here in Australia and get a pie its a heavenly experience. I like to get a custard tart and a chocolate milk to go with it.
You can't just go to any bakery though, you have to go to one that is judged as best bakery in the area in unanimous decision by the town folk.

Probably the most genius piece of PR one company has ever done in Australia. Whenever a sausage sizzle is mentioned these days there will always be a mention of Bunnings. It's what admen dream of; you get to co-op a basic tradition without anyone complaining that it was there and that you 'appropriated' it.

Knowing Woolies though, the dude probably got fired 5 day later.

This is a brandy ginger log.
Take a pack of hard ginger snap biscuits (cookies for our Western Hemisphere cousins). Dunk the ginger snaps in brandy and stick them together with brandied whipped cream to form a log. Cover the log with more brandied whipped cream. Leave for 24 hours in the fridge to set, then serve to your ten year old nieces and nephews at Christmas for maximum laughs.

It's a bit of a forgotten 1950's classic but it's tasty and full of sugar, fat, carbs and booze.
