Belgian here, we have some sweet (literally) abbey beers. Great to start off, full of flavour and not to bitter. Hints of choclate etc. Feels like a full meal. good to get into more bitter stuff. it's and acquired taste I guess.

I have tried lots of beers, and I just do not understand it. It does not taste good. In fact, it is sort of retched. Of course there are some I enjoy more than others, but I always feel like I have to force myself to drink it, beer has an awful aftertaste.

There's just nothing about it that "hits the spot" other than giving you a buzz. It doesn't quench your thirst in any way, it doesn't appeal to any tastebuds. Either its too creamy and gross like guiness or any kind of stout, or it's too bitter and tasteless and leaves a bad taste in your mouth

I dunno if I've become accustomed to it, but sometimes a cold beer is the best thing in the world. The slight bitterness is rounded by malt flavors, it has a slightly savory taste to it and it is refreshing as anything. I find them thirst quenching and satisfying.
Also, there is some evidence that a beer after a workout can rehydrate you more effectively than pure water. I presume this has to do with sugars and electrolytes in the beer.
I do drink a lot of beer so I may be biased.

I can't stand the taste of most alcoholic drinks, not alcohol itself(except beer, love me some belgian). Jägermeister tastes like toothpaste, scotch/bourbon and othee dark spirits make me gag. So when I want to get wasted I take some 96% ethanol(not denatured alcohol) from the lab where I work and mix it in small amounts with cherry or orange juice, something to cover the taste.

For the budget alcoholic, Kirkland (Costco Brand) booze is pretty good. It's typically knockoff-tier booze of a given type for a fraction of the price per volume, enough of a discount where price matters far more than taste.

First off, not everyone is a straight shot person. Being a cocktail person is a-ok. Doesn't mean you can't have taste.

Jaeger especially is pretty grim straight unless it's your joint, It tastes pretty good with vanilla ice cream.

Anyway, if you're a beer fan I suggest some good cocktails to dilute your spirits (buy mid-tier spirits because once you mix you are diluting the quality of the spirit itself). Gin and tonics, Whiskey and soda, etc. Depending on where you live what mixer I'd recommend for these varies.

There's one of two things going on here:

1) You don't know what beer taste like
2) You're familiar with the flavor of piss

If you don't like the taste of alcohol, you should try some different wines. Merlot is fruity and it has mass appeal. Cabernet Sauvignon is slightly less fruity and dry. Goes really good with a steak or burger. Cream sherry is great if you want to get buzzed but hate alcohol, it is very sweet and rich. Just don't cheap out and buy cooking sherry because it will be too salty to drink. Some white wines, like Riesling, also mask the taste of the alcohol really well.

There are a lot of people that don't like beer. It's unfortunate, though, that most don't really give it a fair try. Busch, Miller, Bud, etc. really are very bad to pretty much everyone except hardcore alcoholics. If you get something from a microbrewery or try Boulevard it'll be totally different to the point you'll think it's an entirely different drink. Imported beer can also be really good, but a lot are very skunky (hoppy) types and a lot of rich dark beers that are hard to drink more than a bit so you kinda need to know what you're looking at.
