Funny one this . . .. when Aldi (and Lidls) first appeared in Britain, it was somewhat of a novelty, I could fill a shopping trolley to the brim for £40 . . .Brilliant!

The downside was - nothing was labelled in English, it was ten syllable words and you had to look at the picture on the tin or packet to see what you were buying.

It's all in English now which is good and I often shop there but inconsistency is still common, so something you bought last week may not be there this week and you have to go elsewhere to buy it but on the whole, they're OK!

Great dairy
Cheap other stuff
Produce is always awful. Nothing I buy there is remotely near ripe, and then it just skips ripe and goes to rotten. Fruit flies and mold on the berries.

Overall great if you combine it with a produce grocer. super fucking cheap, literally half the price of shoprite. Their cereals are all top notch, and lots of weird one-offs and german imports. I don't like their meats though. But if you want cheese and dairy they're top fucking notch. And the pesto is amazing quality.

>Produce is always awful.
I found that depends more on the store. Some stores have good produce and others have awful produce. I think it might be because some managers are reluctant to put out new produce from the back until the older stuff is sold so it just sits there and no one buys it. Also the brand matters. If I see Sun Belle berries, I don't even look at them since they're almost always moldy and if they aren't they're bland. Occasionally they'll have Berries Paradise raspberries which I like better than Driscoll's and are much cheaper.

Shitty overall selection and their perishables all seem to be of terrible quality. Most of their "inexpensive" products aren't actually so, they're the same or higher priced than in traditional grocery stores. That makes no sense. Shoprite, Wegmans, Stop & Shop, and Pathmark are all more expensive. I've priced all the cheese elsewhere and sale prices only come close for shitty brands of block cheese. Wegmans beats them on milk along with everyone else but not on sour cream. I haven't seen buttermilk at Aldi and heavy cream, h&h, etc. is similarly priced to Wegmans which is the cheapest. Canned goods are all cheaper at Aldi than the other stores by at least 30%. Shoprite only competes with the other stores' prices during cancan. Cereal is definitely cheaper, as is candy chocolate, nuts, cookies, and other junk food. The frozen stuff is always cheaper. Their mushrooms are always cheaper even when not on special and I've never had a problem with either the white button or crimini. The berries are always cheaper and as long as it's a good brand they're very good for supermarket berries. The farmer's markets are better for bakery bread and rolls but that's because supermarkets don't seem to compete on those. Wegmans, some Shoprites, and farmer's markets are good for fresh herbs but Aldi doesn't carry them anyway.
>>6961236
>I come in your consumer perceptions and I don't give a fuck.
I'm not sure what you're doing but you should try pricing the difference between stores. Some products are worse at Aldi but a lot of them are comparable and some are better. As for their non-grocery specials, the only place that beats them is Kmart when they put shit on clearance. I don't know how Walmart manages to have worse quality and be more expensive for the same items but whatever. I missed out on the chisels at Aldi though. ;_;

I've worked at an Aldi in Australia for 8 years. Not sure how they run em over in the states, but at least half, if not much more, of our regular grocery lines (biscuits, spreads, snacks, pasta / sauce etc.) are made by the same company as the 'real' brands and packaged in Aldi exclusive packets. I know this because we get the delivery notices attached to the boxes from the warehouse. The only difference between Aldi biscuits and the Kraft brand biscuits is the Aldi ones are half the price and come in a box you don't see anywhere else. If you are ok with occasionally getting something shit and returning it for cash, you can buy mostly the same shit from the same producers for half the price at Aldi.

That doesn't make sense either. I leave my hometown often since if you go a few miles in any direction, you go through multiple towns and most of these stores are not in my hometown. For groceries, it wouldn't make sense to compare it to Foodtown, Kings, Food Emporium, Whole Foods, and A&P, etc. since they are all obviously more expensive. I'll admit that I've only been to Acme once so I left it out of my comparison. The other supermarkets wouldn't make sense since they sell different groceries for the most part in the form of luxury goods and/or ethnic foods. For the non-grocery items, it doesn't make sense either since only kmart and walmart sell comparable goods. I don't know much about cheap tools so I only mentioned the chisels but I guess they would be similar to China Freight, northern tool, and other big box store tools with which I'm not familiar with. It seems that they don't teach even a basic metrics course to whatever process management is (b school?) so I'm not sure why you mentioned it when you clearly don't know how to make a valid comparison. I'll assume your colleagues are similarly retarded until after I have a look at what your top field journal is since perhaps you went to a bad school. Your argument is mostly based on small-chain examples that don't exist, or are very uncommon, outside of your specific region. This argument would make more sense if you're audience was primarily from your region (they're not).

"Hometown" is a widely-used colloquial term for the general area in which a person grew up. It is not limited to the borders on a map.

>luxury goods and/or ethnic foods
Based on this thread (and /ck/ in general), a luxury food is anything that doesn't come pre-prepared. "Ethnic food" hasn't been more than a marketing slogan for decades.

I'm talking about places like Harrods for luxury foods not some /ck/ definition.
>"Ethnic food" hasn't been more than a marketing slogan for decades.
I've never said that it was. What I did say is that it doesn't make sense to compare small supermarkets that mostly sell goods catering to certain ethnicities which Aldi doesn't carry.
>How the fuck is Kmart still even a thing?! Probably because dipshits like you keep shopping there. That company has been a joke for 30 years. I see that you have no reading comprehension nor do you follow retail in the US. If you did you would know that it's because Sears Holdings Corp is a real estate company. While they hold this property, it makes sense for them to generate some revenue. I've never said that I lack access to other retailers nor did I not say that it was a joke. If you're going to make a comparison on the price of goods, then you need to use the same or similar quality of good in order for the comparison to be valid. >>don't know much about cheap tools
I don't know about cheap tools. What's the problem with that? Aldi does sell tools so it makes sense to at least acknowledge why I left it out of the comparison.

>You don't know shit about tools.
It's clear that you don't know shit about tools. There's an obvious reason why I only mentioned the chisels.
>A statement is devalued when ignorance is claimed in the same statement. Avoiding run-on sentences and maintaining a singular train of thought within a paragraph also helps.
That's not a run-on sentence. Learn what a conjunction is. If you don't want me make ignorant statements about you, then don't use an appeal to authority nor an ad-hominem attack on my wealth and lack of visits to flyover country. My train of thought is well maintained as I specifically focused on showing why I mentioned those chains, why I didn't mention the others, and why that's important to making a valid comparison.
>You're clearly still in school, or fresh out, given your emphasis on it and the site we're on. Come back when you've prepared meals outside of the microwave on a regular basis.

Everything about it looks and feels cheap. I'm not a snob and I'm definitely not rich either, but most of the stuff I bought there (from canned food to fruit and baked stuff) tastes... cheap (to put it plainly) and bland.

When it comes to German supermarkets I prefer Kaufland, it's a good mix of it's own brand items that a re both cheap and good quality. The strange thing about it is that every country I've been to (from Bulgaria to the Czech Republic) the stores are very spacious, nicely lit and with a really nice selection of goods. But when I visited it in Germany, it was really shitty and dingy, with very cramped aisles and very few options. very disappointed.

That is interesting.
I worked in Aldi in Denmark years ago and it was the most underpaid and ungrateful job I've ever known. They worked us like fucking slaves and weren't afraid to break a few laws doing it.
One memorable case was the woman who called in sick and was informed she'd be fired if she didn't show. She told them she had diarrhea and couldn't sit at the register for hours. They told her to wear a diaper.

Good old Aldi.
The produce is top notch, though. At least here.

Why are you so mad? It's Aldi's business how much they pay their employees. I don't know how aldi works in America, but here there are like a handful employees in the store and they do cashier work and sometimes unbox new stuff etc, they work around the store in turns I guess. In Walmart, you literally have guys standing at the front door saying "hi how are you" all day and I bet those guys get minimum wage.
Aldi is so successful because they keep their business as big as possible but as small as necessary to make a good profit. And that means they won't afford hiring store greeters, grocery baggers, and whatever other shit Walmart has. They have a few employees who do everything, and they get paid as such. If you're mad about not making that much money, why don't you apply at aldi? Or are you scared they won't hire you :^)

Untrue, I employ a great deal of people and give them family meal every single night. I suppose when you've been a "victim" or "systematic racism" you don't have the means to provide for yourself in any meaningful way.

Yes, it's America's fault all niggers are disgusting animals. Africans hate the way American bred niggers act, even the best of them.

The funniest thing about wealthy black people is that they're nearly always conservative and look down on their own people the most, other than pointing the finger and blaming others for their shitty situation in life.

Getting very far off topic though, Aldi's carries the lowest tier food (nutritionally speaking, and hygienically) in the USA. Hands down. Shopping at a road-side vegetable stand is safer.... that's saying an awful lot.
