I had to bite my tongue so hard watching my father make chili today.
>overloads a cold pan with incased bratwurst ground beef and pork chunks
>turns our bland and grey 0 browning
>cuts up stir fry sized chunks of red pepper and onion, uses canned jalapenos even though we have fresh whole
>doesn't brown the veg at all just adds to a cold pot with canned diced tomatoes
>throws in a seasoning packet adds the meat and beans pours in enough water that the chili is now a broth
It's been boiling away (not simmer) for an hour now.

It's so incredibly bland

There's many early recipes mixing pastas like macaroni with cheese but the first iteration of what you get when you think macaroni (and) cheese: macaroni baked in a mornay sauce comes from an English cookbook. So while there may have been earlier variation, what we know today comes from England.
