Bean soup. I always have some bean cans, heat some oil, fry onion and garlic, add canned tomato paste, salt pepper chili powder and beans. Then add any other canned vegetables you have. Maybe I eat it in a tortilla if I happen to scrape one that was hidden at the bottom of the fridge.

I have literally eaten roadkill.

Chili Con Badger, to be precise.

Skinned it and inspected it's brain and liver for parasites, then my buddy cooked it up in a chili.

We figured a long cooking time would be adviseable, being as we were eating game.

It was a fairly mature animal, so the meat was gamey and muttony, I've spoken to other folks who've eaten badger and they say a yearling is the best.

We're talkin' two years ago now.

Thing is, folks are too squeamish about meat.

Your fairly recent ancestors survived eating things in similar conditions.

What's more, we're now clued in enough to know to cook the parasites out thoroughly.

Basically nothing will survive it's host being made into chili and slow-cooked for a few hours.

One last picture: we managed to get the torso hide off fairly intact, but since neither of us had much prior experience the legs were a bit too fiddly to flay whole.

My buddy salted it and kept it for a while til it went mouldy.

A shame he didn't tan it properly and make it into a hat, the pelt was quite fine.

Not a lot besides worms in the playground as a kid, though I'm always on the lookout for a good carcass to scavenge.

Being in England there's not that much wildlife worth eating: I'm on the lookout for deer though.

I'm considering taking a crack at Freeganism soon too, so I'll raid a few dumpsters one night and make a thread about what I can make from my takings.

I'm always up for free food: it's something of a reprieve from being entirely cash dependant: if you can eat for free, or practically free you can use your money for other shit.

One piece of advice I can proffer is try not to puncture the intestinal sack, or the waste left in it's innards can taint the meat.

this is what sleeves of ramen and massive bags of rice are for. I usually have mostly empty bags of frozen veg in the freezer and either sauce or stock powder in the back of the cupboard. and there's dried spices. So simple ramen or something made from rice.

there's also soup in my freezer right now, last few times I made soup i froze a serve just in case I got super broke or lazy. tomato lentil soup.

I am from "Cajun country" and my father is as country as they come. The worst he's eaten was maybe rabbit, but he didn't eat anything he didn't buy or hunt. Idk if you guys think deer is weird, but it's the least odd of all "odd meats" and tastes really good.
