Soup, salad, and breadsticks if they look fresh and not dripping grease. If you really want an entree, get one that involves no pasta. All their pasta is bland and mushy cafeteria-tier crap, exactly how their geriatric flyover base likes it.

Not OP, but I used to go to Olive Gardens into my 30s when visiting my grandparents until they passed away, and have also gone to them with other grandparents attending a friend's kid's graduation or whatever. So funny story about OG.

>be me
>have dead grandfather of Orthodox Jewish family
>whole family grieving

Now, some of the family is not really practicing Orthodox, including Cousin Fatfuck and myself.

>Cousin Fatfuck is youngest cousin of my grandmother's grandkids, and her bewuved.

Cousin Fatfuck begins throwing tantrum he's hungry after the funeral meal and that he couldn't eat anything there. He wants the immediate family (my brother, me, uncle, mother, aunt, other cousin) to go to Olive Garden with him. We all want to go.

>pull the cancer card

"Oh guiz remember when I had cancer a year ago? I totally don't have my old stamina."

I reserve this card for special occasions, and usually it works. But my asshole brother had to chime in, "Don't you work 60 hour weeks, anon?

Fuck you. You could have offered to drive my sick ass back to the hotel and we could be in our rooms now being normal introverts. My grandmother assures me that Cousin Fatfuck just wants to be with family and we don't have to eat. Guess what? Half the fucking people going can't eat there anyway. But Cousin Fatfuck is the baaaaaaaaaaaaaaybee of the family...

Does Fatfuck have shame? Nope. Some of us order drinks and a couple people get dessert. I had a Sprite because I felt nauseated. (Probably working myself into a spiteful hypochondria, but everyone deserved it for putting up with Fatfuck's shit.)

Fatfuck orders some big faggy cocktail with a shot on the side.

>then the fried lasagna

>ohnoyoudidn't.jpg

My grandmother makes loud comments that since Fatfuck is in the military, he's had to learn to accommodate goy eating habits. Yeah, whatever.

>here comes the dinner order:

A steak meal with potato and green beans, and a fettucini alfredo. With a beer and a shot, please.

He sucks his beer down and orders another. My uncle tells Cousin Fatfuck if he's going to suck down this shit, he should have just eaten fast food.

Cont. from this post.

Fatfuck is insulted; he could never eat that shit fast food! And our cruel uncle just wants him to starve, he says, horking down his steak while dipping it in an extra bowl of alfredo. My aunt looks like she's about to faint and my grandmother is getting teary-eyed with embarrassment.

My mother is enjoying the shit out of this moment as her wonderful children who work in law and medicine sit there just looking like little angels, at least compared to Fatfuck.

I begin to moan about not feeling good, because I'm ready to go to the hotel and if it takes guilt-tripping everyone to get there, fuck it.

>cue silent crying about being sad about grandfather and not feeling good

Fatfuck rolls his eyes and gets an Irish coffee and some big fucking chocolate thing. Someone asks if he can get it to go and he gets all verklempt and my grandmother jumps to his aid, saying not to rush him; he's had a hard day, too.

>excuse myself to vomit in the bathroom

The waitress brings the check. So then Fatfuck says, "Why don't we all split it?" I refuse and walk out after giving the waitress $5 for the shit she endured.

Fatfuck screams at me as we ride back to our grandmother's house together that I'm so selfish. Uncle jumps dead in his ass that Grandmother is exhausted and so is everyone else.

I haven't spoken to Fatfuck since that night.

Anyway, totally go to Olive Garden. Great family place or for a date. :)

Most of the food there is actually decent. If you compare it to real Italian food it can't compare but nothing on the menu is actually bad tasting

Except the pizza. The pizza is total crap and is one of the few times I've been to a chain where there was something I just didn't want to eat at all. Usually that stuff is tested with so many groups of people in labs that its supposed to be atleast edible to most of the population.

You idiot you ordered the absolute wrong shit there.

THIS IS A COMPREHENSIVE /ck/ APPROVED LIST OF SHIT TO ORDER AT OLIVE GARDEN WHEN YOU GO AND IF ANYONE HAS EVER WORKED THERE THEY WILL CONFIRM:

1. Alfredo or Marinara to dip the breadsticks in
2. Salad
3. More Salad, the salad is good. No, it's not fucking incredible. It's good salad. Much like the other items here that's the point, it's not shitty like some of their menu items.
4. Zuppa Toscana
5. Minestrone Soup
6. Any of their alfredo pastas
7. Obviously the breadsticks. Bread with butter and salt is still good in 2015.

And that's about fucking it. The make your own pasta thing is ok as well because they make a lot of the sauces in the place contrary to popular opinion but the rest is fucking nonsense.

If you ordered anything other than the above you got what you deserved which is nonsense.

And frankly going to Olive Garden for any other reason than getting roped into it or getting a gift card from some misguided person, etc. is nonsense.

Not him but kosher, halal, and even Hindu dietary restrictions are more meant to help society at the time they were given. For example, Israel is an area with little water and greenery, pigs would destroy that and thus aren't kosher although the reason given is that God says so, why would people back then think that greenery would be destroyed by pig grazing? They'd ignore the ruling but since they think God said it they accept it. Hindus and cows just has to do with the fact that if you kill a cow you only eat once but can turn the milk into dairy products and eat many times. Tl;dr all the dietary laws had a reason when they were given and now remain as tradition.

Olive garden being terrible is a ridiculous meme. Olive Garden is overpriced, salty as fuck, and--gasp!--inauthentic, but it's totally fine and edible and good. Soup/ salad/ breadsticks is glorious.

It's all shitty.

The McDonalds of Italian food... with a pretentious pseudo-upscale facade.

Nothing but microwaved entrees, iceberg lettuce salads, freeze dried alfredo sauce, overcooked pasta, marinara consisting basically of ketchup.

Sometimes they offer a taste of a new wine and it always tastes like a blend of Welch's grapejuice and vinegar. Their beer list is obviously macro brew after macro brew. The best it gets is Sam Adams or Blue fucking Moon.

I heard that they segregate where people sit based on what they are wearing, in order to make people in each section feel comfortable and order more crap.

I fucking detest OG.
