Would you dare to eat an exotic food like this?
It is called "balut" in filipino, trứng vịt lộn in vietnamese and "aborted duck egg" in english where you can eat it somewhere in asia specifically philippines and vietnam.

>> No.6805613

why does exotic always seem to be synonymous with gross and weird

>>6805608
Had it.
Took a trip to the Philippines.

8/10, honestly the flavor wasn't bad (like a gamey boiled/rotten egg) plus they serve it with a vinegar chili sauce that you can douse it with it and cover up the musky flavor

probably that's why it is called "exotic".
There's even more grosser than that, imagine yourself eating a crispy fried spider.

Indeed, it is the most eatable food at night here and you can even pair it with beer or something.

I imagine it wouldn't be unlike crab if prepared in a similar way.

>>6805608
I've sorta wanted to try it, but I don't know anywhere in the greater Seattle area I can buy it (that isn't some hole in the wall place that doesn't have a license to serve food).

Cheese.

How is that more gross than a foetus, or even gross at all?

But I'd try the foetus, if it were offered to me.

Google is your friend, you can ask it. I just searched where you can eat such and it sayd "Nue" restaurant serves that.

Not everything. If you're lost in the wilderness, and all you can find to eat is a week-old rotting carcass, maggots are going to make it better. Because you can eat the maggots crawling in the poisonous flesh instead of taking a chance on the flesh itself.

Except in Sardinia. Because they make it (fuck if I know why) and enjoy it (again, fuck if I know why), they pulled the "m-muh heritage" card and can make and eat and incubate as many maggots as they please.

I'm viet and these are snacks to be eaten with friends along with a couple of beers. Kind of like buffalo wings, I guess.

When I was a kid, my family used to eat these once in a while. I would just throw in some salt/pepper, eat the yolk and juice, and let someone else have the feathery, bony fetus because that shit looked disgusting.

I feel like Sardinians had the right to pull the "m-muh heritage" card. I heard that they're pretty genetically isolated.

I've had these exotic foods before. This only includes animal products:

Century egg (5/10)
Jellyfish (6/10)
Mealworms (4/10)
Crickets (4/10)
Silkworm pupae (0/10)
Alligator (10/10)
Buffalo (10/10)
Frog (8/10)
Rabbit (7/10)
Quail eggs (10/10)
Filipino salted duck eggs (6/10)

>> No.6807432

i remember eating balut once. the yolk tasted like any yolk in a hardboiled egg, except, meatier if that makes sense. the bird itself tasted very much like when you have a nosebleed and you can taste the blood from the back of the throat (at least thats what mine tasted like). the liquid before you actually start eating has a very strong chicken taste to it, but there is only a little, so its like taking a shot of strong chicken stock. and the egg whites are inedible as they have the likeness to a pencil eraser, being tough

>> No.6808217

Is food from other continents really so weird, and mine normal, or is it just that I'm not used to it and Asians would just as equally look at my food like it's some crazy shit? I just can't think of anything that I eat that other people would be so shocked by.

Slav btw

Help me out guys, is there any Slav or even European in general food that people not from here look at as some crazy shit?

No. I hate the smell of rotten eggs already and I'm sure the texture of the little duck bones and bill getting crunched would be disgusting enough.

I'd pick at it, but I couldn't do that whole all-in-the-mouth thing that people claim they do when they eat this.
>>6807404

Those deserve to be higher on the scale, including mealworms, unless you just ate them plain and non-fried.
Frog was disappointing because it just tasted like a wet chicken.

>>6805608
It's not meat, but I did try natto after all the "EW GROSS" hype. It was just a salty soybean with the texture of a boiled peanut with a slight slimy consistency like okra. It was actually pretty good.
