Is pasta hard to cook for a beginner? I'm learning to cook my own shit and I'm trying to bulk, pasta sounds cheaper than cooking mexican food and pasta is good for bulking, like all I ever cooked for a month was ground beef for my burritos but then I realized that cream cheese and sour cream aren't the same thing.

Can you boil water?

Yes. Do you just boil water, put some salt and toss in the pasta? Do you just put tomato souce on ground beef? That's all?

USE A FUCKLOAD OF WATER. Like a gallon. Seriously. Pasta needs room. Do not try and weasel your way out using a 1 qt pot. Use a BIG pot and PLENTY of water!

No, what you need to do is boil the pasta in the sauce. If you're preparing a sauce from scratch, then you'd need to boil your pasta in water while your sauce finishes, but if you're using canned sauce, it's designed to have the pasta boiled in it in the first place.

yep
>boil water
>add pasta
>cook ground beef
>add sauce to beef
>wait
>drain pasta, add to beef
done

Even easier if you use something other than beef like canned tuna that you can literally just dump in.

If it is unbroken with half sticking out of the water won't it take time for the submerged portion to soften up enough for the slack to submerge the rest resulting in uneven doneness on 50% of the noodles?

Yeah buddy! That's why you have to break it in half!

I prefer to boil the pasta until it's nearly done, strain it, and then put it into the sauce to finish.

Get your ass over to America's Test Kitchen's website and watch one of their pasta recipes. Simple and free. They usually reserve some of the starchy pasta water before draining (scoop some out with a measuring cup or glass). If your sauce is too dry you add a bit of the reserved pasta cooking water back in until it is loose.

Here is how you actually cook pasta.

Step 1: Turn on the burner. THIS IS IMPORTANT. If your burner won't turn on, check your gas line and call your gas service provider. Many times if you're moving to a new place your provider simply won't have turned on the gas to your household. When it does go on, ensure that the flame is blue and clear (IE, that it doesn't put off any smoke directly). DON'T TOUCH THE FLAME. Now, once you've ensured the flame isn't going to go out unexpectedly, measure the heat of the flame. It should be many hundreds of degrees. If it's under 200 degrees, that's too cold. If it's over 1,000 degrees, you're probably using an industrial-grade stovetop at your workplace. Congratulations. Turn the heat down if that's the case. The flame should be no larger than the length of a small woman's big toe.

Step 2: Cook the pasta.

Yep, it's just that easy!
