Del taco is great and their hot sauce is actually hot.

Their cheese is shredded daily, and while its thrown together just as slopilly, I get the feeling its just a bit fresher and was probably made within the week that I was eating it.

I live near Irvine and the area around the campus has been developed quite a bit in the past decade.

As for Mexican food in OC, it's there, you'd just have to look and either drive to Santa Ana if you want cheap or go a little south and get it fancy but good.

But honestly for people hating on Del Taco here, I guess you just didn't have the pleasure of being a teenager and getting chicken soft tacos with inferno sauce and an order of macho fries.

Del Taco is good honestly, but the draw of Tabo Bell is their specialty items...you won't get any delicious special sauces, like on the gordita crunch and quesadilla and volcano items, no special crap like smothered burritos,crunch wraps, etc etc

But if you just want say a regular old bean burrito or a few normal tacos for cheap, Del Taco is a better bet. But who the hell goes to Taco Bell and just orders tacos or a plain burrito anyway? It's all about the specialties
