How do I git good at cooking?

I can cook/make most of the basic (western) recipes, except for some super heavy preparation stuff (like Black Forest gateau).

The problem is, it just tastes "okay".

I remember eating a simple tomato pasta dish + a steak in Italy and it just melted on my tongue. You just couldn't stop eating.

How do you get to this level of cooking? Is it the ingredients? Is it the dishware? A special preparation method?

I'd say part of it is the ingredients, and part of it is knowing how to prepare the food, which includes not overwhelming it with flavours (like putting too many spices) as well as pairing it with complementary flavours (such as tomatoes with a little oregano if the species of tomato goes well with it).

god you sound like such a fucking retard

'i can cook pretty much anything, it's just not that good for some vague reason. how do i make really nice food, in general, answers on a postcard'

i think your first step is realising that it is going to take a fucking long time and you should seek individual answers to individual questions if you want to learn anything. because learning anything is about learning its details, laboriously, one by one.

You are missing a key ingredient.

Love.

You have to make sweet sweet love to the food you cook.

I got better ever since working in hospitality. I'd do front service but then get chill with the cooks out back, and learn some things.

Practice and experimentation.

>> No.6717399

Try lots of recipes, learn cuts of meat and how to best cook them. Buy the best ingredients you can afford. Keep a food journal with notes on improving the dish each time. Find a TV or food chef you really like and learn some of their recipes.

you have probably been cooking for five minutes

you probably haven't even cooked anything apart from that stupid loaf of mashed potatoes wrapped in bacon

you're probably still rationalising why it wasn't quite the euphoric moment of savoury satisfaction as depicted in the fucking cartoon

fuck off

Like riding a bicycle or learning tricks on a skateboard, the best way to learn it is to do it.

Practise.

I've been cooking on my own since I was eight years old and can today cook circles around most other people I know.

She looks so much like my sister in that pic that it disturbs me greatly.
My brother-in-law cried when she had to get tit reduction because D-sized sweater-pals should never be on a woman who is only 1m55 (5'1") tall as they will cause back pain.
