A lot of the barbecue joints I've visited in the South simply add barbecue sauce to canned pork and beans. They add other stuff, but that's basically the base.

So A1 is just going to approximate Ranch style beans, I'd imagine.

It's somewhat similar to the "brown sauce" that the British use; I tried it with some bacon on toasted bread and it was surprisingly awesome.
