I'll be heading off to Scotsdale, Arizona next week, and maybe travelling to Phoenix too. I've never been to America before. What should I get to eat over there?

Eat at a local/regional burger chain if you have to have a burger. The huge nationwide chains run from horrid to merely acceptable.

I live in oldtown scottsdale right next to Fashion Square Mall. You should check out Craft 64. They have 30 local beers on tap and they have a brick pizza oven. There is an old british guy tending the bar that knows all about the local craft beer scene and he is a hoot to talk to.

Honestly I know more about the local bars. If you have any other questions though I would be glad to help. What kinds of food were you thinking about?

Are you more adventurous or do you like the sort of stuff that most people like? Some stuff in Scottsdale and a little outside...

stuff that will appeal to most people:

Cafe Monarch- spendier side - dinner - but consistently pretty good
Andreoli's- casual Italian - lunch - sandwiches, meats, cheeses, pastas, pastry items are consistently good
Arcadia Farms - french influence murcan - breakfast, lunch - can be a little inconsistent, but usually quite good
Blue Adobe Grill - casual SW bar food
Pig and Pickle - semi-casual - rich dishes
Tarbell's - pricier, but not a rip off as the ingredients themselves are expensive - consistently good
The Chuck Box - get a burger, they're bigger than I like, but that's not a complaint

A little adventurous:

Los Sombreros - Contemporary semi-casual Mexican (much more than a taco cart, but they have good tacos, if more expensive than one might expect a taco to be)
Binkley's Restaurant - French influenced Murcan a la Thomas Keller - dinner - pricy, and a bit of a drive up north
House of Tricks - closed at this time in the summer, but worth mentioning for if you come again
Hap's Pit BBQ - lots of meat - should be enjoyed by most everyone IMO, but not everyone's style in my experience

there's a lot of hipster places in Tempe which are usually on the less expensive end, too, including to a lesser hipster extent Four Peaks, which simply has good beer and decent bar food. For some good, cheap Mexican food, check around Gilbert and Mesa.

And, of course, Amy's Baking Company. They're selling it, if they haven't already. Get thrown out while you can.

I used to stop by the chuck box whenever I went to pop culture paradise. I haven't been since they closed down.

There is still the one in Tempe. It's worth a trip every now and then, but yeah, I wish the one in Scottsdale was still here. It seems to me like people want all the trendy shit more now, which makes me sad.

Are you sure? I am pretty sure Pop culture paradise in tempe closed down.

If you were ever wanted to know how those chicago deep dish pizzas taste, there is a place called oreganos that does a decent one. They have a few locations across the valley. There is also a fast food mexican drive through that is only located in the phoenix metropolitan area called filibertos. They have 13 locations, but there are also a lot of imitators with similar names. Its not bad for fast food tex mex style, and they even occasionally have lengua. There are better places, but its not a bad choice when you're drunk at 3 am and nothing else is open.

Chompies is a jewish place and has a mean ruben. Best I've had. In n out if you're from out of town. Mexican everywhere check yelp. Check out cave creek, its got a neat little downtown with some good places like el encanto and brians black mountain barbeque.

>Blue Adobe Grill
I was going to say I love this place, but then I realized there are two Blue Adobes, in Mesa and North Scottsdale. They have totally different websites, but they both have a really similar menu seperated into "adobe plate" and "blue plate". But then the Mesa one calls themselves 'the original' and neither site mentions the other restaurant. I wonder what the deal is.

Anyway I guess go to one of those and get the chorizo stuffed chicken. Or something else off the 'blue plate' menu, their mexican food isn't all that special.

Holy shit, I have not been there since I was 5. I used to go to ventana elementary in cave creek, and my parents took us to el encanto one night. It was so pretty.

El Encanto is screwy now.
I recently had fish tacos with some oddball kind of whitefish, pesto, and parmesan.
They didn't taste bad, but I really wasn't expecting Italianish flavored fish tacos.

There's a bunch of Blue Adobes, I think. I know of three off the top of my head, anyway. I haven't had a bad experience at any.

I remember feeding those ducks. Also, I didn't know there used to be one in scottsdale. I had only been to the tempe one. Really the only reason I visit that part of tempe anymore is to go to endgame or ash avenue comics.

The only cool thing about del taco is the go bold option. If you ask them to make an item, "Go bold", they will add fries and sauce to it. Even if that item is a milkshake or something equally retarded.
