Post your city and state and the food that you think represents your area the most. Alternatively, recommend any food that you feel any tourist must absolutely try.

Is pic related accurate for you?

>deep dish pizza

Chicago is one tiny part of the state, basically sequestered off in one corner. Chicago's cuisine is in no way indicative of the cuisine in the rest of the state. On top of that, deep dish is not even the style of pizza preferred by people who fucking live in Chicago. If that has been a party-cut thin-crust(but not cracker thin) pizza, it would be more accurate. That's eaten all over the state, and for most people in Illinois outside of the Quad Cities and the St. Louis area, this would be what they think of when someone says pizza.

My personal comfort food is probably chicken tendies and potato logs, though. Or an order of cheese bread with marinara. Good barbecue is heaven.

The problem is that moderate Mohammedans (who make up the majority, actually) and liberal ones (who are quite rare but do, in fact, exist) don't ever, ever, EVER speak out. Ever.
"Killing people is wrong!"
Yes, they'll say this. But they'll never, ever, ever speak out about their more liberal or even moderate ideals in public. Ever. For fear of rejection by their group.
I've asked several Muslims about their personal beliefs and very, very few, only one, in fact, wasn't moderate or even liberal in most of their social and even religious beliefs.
But because of the omnipresent, controlling nature of their religious tradition and the threat of punishment for apostasy being a very real thing, even amongst Muslim populations living in the West, near none will ever voice their modernised views to an audience larger than a handful of persons. Though, to be fair, it's not punished with jailtime or by any sanctioned court in the Western World but, rather, by simple shunning. Still, when you fear that your entire social group would turn its back on you, it's enough to make you keep your views to yourself.

Starting where?
Ending where?
Any specific locations you'll be stopping on the way?
For instance, I'd recommend the Alabama BBQ chicken with white sauce, but that's a northern Bama thing. Won't help you if you're only going to be driving along I-10 or the like. And ending your trek in Atlanta is VERY different from ending it in Savannah.

Yeah, sorry. Forgot to mention I'd mostly be driving along I-20, starting in DFW area and ending in Atlanta. I don't have a lot of free time so the only stop-overs I'll be having are for gas and bathroom breaks, plus breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It feels so bad that I won't even be able to explore the states I'll be passing through.
