Adding a dash of salt works wonders while it's cooking, then add some honey or some jam once it's done. The salt, even a small amount really helps.

I was always fond of maple syrup and almond butter

Anyone who doesn't like oatmeal simply hasn't messed around with oatmeal enough. It is like the chicken of carbohydrates. Pretty plain but an excellent base for a billion flavours.

Even just soaking it overnight in milk makes taste better. Or perhaps try apple juice if you have a sweet tooth. Mashing a banana works great too.

I usually just make it 70% milk with a bit of water to stop it from catching in the pot, throw in some berries until they start to get stewy, take it off the heat.
Let it cool and dig in for deliciousness.

Cook with milk instead of water, and if you're calorie conscious then just use 1/4 or /1/2 milk and the rest water. OR just add milk after you cook it.

So, milk, whole milk, with a little brown sugar.

i add frozen berries, 10$ for 1.5kg bag of mixed blueberries raspberries and blackberries.

brings the oats to the proper temp after cooking as well.

i also soak my oats overnight, so they arent as anhydrous. makes it much easier to digest.

I love wetherspoons breakfasts. Part of the fun is going there at 10am and seeing old alcoholics drinking pints.

Did a hippy touch you with some apple cinnamon oatmeal?

It's okay, it's gets better.

>> No.6636704

You don't. You endure through the soggy blandness of your porridge and laugh at all the fat fuckers adding more carbs to their carbs

>> No.6637023

I like overnight oatmeals. I can't stand it being hot.

>> No.6637186

Each to his own but I love oats and have eaten it daily without fail for years. Often more than once.

Several people have mentioned brown sugar but be careful when adding to the pot because it can burn easily and stick to the pot. Best to add in the bowl instead (until you become an oat-pro like me!).

Other things I like to add:
>banana
>berries
>cinnamion
>nutmeg
>cocoa powder
>chia (effects texture more than taste)
>quinoa (see chia)
>vanilla proton powder
>a pinch of salt can make the sweet ingredients taste sweeter
>honey
>maple syrup
>any combination of the above
Pro tip: a banana plus honey plus maple syrup go extremely well together.

Disclaimer: I make it in a pot on the stove which might taste different than microwaved.

>> No.6637272

>>6637186
I've had to make it on both stove top and microwave throughout the years and I find that unless the oats are soaked overnight, microwaved oats just aren't as tasty as stove cooked oatmeal with regular stirring.
Takes a bit longer though, not to mention clean up.
