it's just a traditional dessert/breakfast. cooking them is more in the hobbyist-nature, and it does feel fairly rewarding to make them well. i wouldnt really buy them, but if i'm bored on the weekend i'll try making some of these things.

Ok, for one, there's too many imperfections on the surfaces of the tops of the macarons. Second, the cookies should be equal size to each other. Third, your use of brown macarons, complimented by a deep red, don't meld together at all. Your presentation falls flat, you should have gone for something more like pic related if you're using a deep red filler.

op here. Second batch was shit. Had trouble with a FedEx guy, and the 30 minute rest turned into a tour dry-a-thon. On the plus side coconut shaving work well as an almond flour replacement.

yes the shell is not as smooth as it could be but that's a seriously anal thing to whine about compared to the feet, which are very well developed in your pic.

just make sure your TPT is very well sifted and fold it together quickly but thoroughly. it's a very good first attempt.

A good macaron is hard to pull off - the outer shell should be soft and spongy with just a slight crunchiness to the "crust" the filling should be gooey (def not like some spread / marmalade more like a "softer / more malleable version of jello)
