surf clam has little to no inherent flavor, if anything the flavor you were tasting was from the soy sauce brush they use on the rice under it. If you like surf clams, 12 oz frozen usually cost around 12 bucks or so in asian supermarkets, theres better uses for it than putting it on nigiri

Post your recipe. I've never really found this to be true of gazpacho. Very distinctly different.

My recipe includes sherry vinegar or lemon juice, as well as the small amount of extra virgin olive oil (the greener the better). But, I would say the bell pepper and cucumber to be far more prominent than the tomato base in flavors. It's very saladlike, with a nice texture and little tang. I liken it more to "bloody mary" than a pico de gallo. Did you like it? If not, add a little worchestershire and go more bloody mary with it.

Congrats on making it it though! It grows on you after you perfect your own recipe. My issue is that I need a farmer's market trip to make it affordable for a whim.

P.S. Tomato aspic always tasted like gazpacho to me. I think gelatin molds should make a comeback!!
