In Australia they're a pretty standard thing. Within 8 minutes drive of where I live I'd say there would be at least 20, not counting supermarkets with their own bakeries.

I grew up close to a small hostess retail shop. The Hostess drivers would take the (Hostess) product from supermarkets that didn't sell and was about to "expire"

This place would sell the nearly expired crap for 1/10th of the price.

My first job was at a Dairy Mart gas station when I was 16 and these things were sold right next to the register (where the 5 hr energy drinks are now). Every morning and afternoon a fat black boy and girl would come in and buy 2 each and then eat them on the curb outside. 4 pies. A day.
