Kimchi Edition:
Why is Korean food so popular in USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Netherland and Germany? Let's discuss.

>> No.6565395

It's not that popular in Australia except amongst Asians.

>> No.6565404

i have never had or seen korean food in germany.

>> No.6565435

UK here

I've never met or conversed with anyone who has ever eaten korean food

>> No.6565438

Los Angeles here. Koreans are terrible people. They make good BBQ though.

>> No.6565447

It's popular in London. Especially after https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judy_Joo

Londoners like everything

>> No.6565469

I spent the summer in Korea and loved the food.

Then I tried recreating it at home recently. I bought kimchi, sesame oil, oyster sauce, gochujang, soy sauce etc.

Everything is weird. I don't know if a whole summer of eating nothing but Korean food is different to eating Western food and then 1 meal out of nowhere in isolation.

Or I just suck.

>> No.6565470

It's not really that popular from my experience, though I guess you'd have to have a lot of Korean restaurants near you to even consider it. Places I have been to are just Korean BBQ.

>and Germany
WAT?
No knows about Korean food here, you fucknut. All we have are Chink-Chong China restaurants here that serve you the same shit Peking duck and Chop Suey. It's so formulaic and copypasted that you will get exactly the same shit everywhere in the country.
China restaurants here are the equivalent of McDonalds - same shit just like you would expect of food chains.

FUCK CHINKS!

>> No.6565630

Tfw closest korean restaurant is a 3 hour drive.

>> No.6565645

How long does homemade kimchi last in the fridge?

Because Korean food is really good and some of the chicks are cute. Growing up in NYC I had access to a lot of it. Not necessarily all the kimchi part but that's a part of it, no doubt. It's kind of funny that Korean's think they know more about hot peppers than Americans that peppers are native to in the first place, that part is really silly.

>> No.6566001

I think that you asians should get over the fact that hot peppers in fact all peppers are native to the Americas. You know less than we do about them, you just used them to flavor your rotten food. Get over yourselves.

it doesn't really go bad...it just gets more sour
I prefer fresh kimchi (fermented for two to three days). There's this certain sweetness to the cabbage that I really like

>> No.6566142

I think that it's best when I go to a Korean restaurant in NYC for instance and she knows what to order and we get it. It's the same with a Brasilian chick, when they order we get much better stuff.

As long as one isn't an asshole about things hey it's pretty cool. They let you know about things that you might not otherwise get and that's pretty cool to me.

>> No.6566146

That's how I learned about skewers of chicken hearts. If it wasn't for some Brasilian friends, I'd have never learned about that.

>Why is Korean food so popular in USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Netherland and Germany? Let's discuss.

It's not. At all.

>> No.6566209

I really like Korean food, but even more than that I love the delicious butthurt from the Chinese and Jap spammers that haunt these threads. Maybe the latter is just an autismal weab, but the former is def a pooperperturbed chink. Top keks to be had.

>> No.6566215

I have sauce to make 제육볶음 but I don't actually know what kind of meat you're supposed to use for it. is it just cut up pork loin or what?

>> No.6566280

i also love korean food, bulgogi galbi bibimbap and the list goes on.
fav has to be kimchi soup and kimchi in general.
was at a korean guy from my class birthday party when i was a kid, had rice and kimchi for breakfast. was amazing. his parents were surprised, and the other kids looked at me weird.

>> No.6566288

I don't think it's that popular in the US for the most part. That said the two people who taught me to cook were the mothers of my childhood friends; one was mexican, one was korean. For that reason alone I will always love korean food.

...And mexican food for that matter, shit I'm a fucking chef in California I have to love mexican food.

You koreans need to get over yourselves.
Not all of your shit encrusted food needs to be covered with kimchee to make it flavorful, we don't all work for the great leader you know.

YOU DUMB ASSES, WITH YOUR KOREAN ARROGANCE, YOU INVENTENED CAPSICUMS TOO? HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

OH WAIT, HAHAHAHAHAH!

>> No.6568044

Shit tastes pretty good.

I have six quart jars of homemade kimchi in my fridge. Tastes great on tacos or mixed in rice or just as a side.

http://www.maangchi.com/recipe/tongbaechu-kimchi

I'm going to make white kimchi next because the spices sort of irritate my stomach.

>> No.6568047

It's crap Korean shit designed to cover up their crap food, if they call it "traditional" they should look into the source of chile peppers and why they were used.

They fuckin' korean hypocrites!

>> No.6568048

Since chile peppers came from the Americas in the first place, I don't have to explain myself to some korean savage, they should try to do that to us.

Protip: do not overfill the jars. Leave at least 1 inch of space. I overfilled them and they all erupted when I opened them, spraying kimchi all over my kitchen. I should have known better.

It's one of the foods where people either really like it or really hate it.

There's no middle ground for Kimchi.
