6495030 No.6495030 [Reply] [Original]

Decided to hit McDonalds for lunch today and as expected, there were already several cars in the drive-thru lane as I pulled up and as is my luck, I got stuck behind a _stupid fuck'n soccer mom_ ordering 9000 items (half of them specially ordered; without pickle, extra ketchup, etc.) during the muth'a fuck'n lunch hour rush, when PEOPLE WITH ACTUAL FUCK'N JOBS need to get in and get the fuck out as quick as possible, as they only have a 1/2 hour to eat.....

There really ought to be a policy at fast food joints that (at least) during the lunch hour rush, there is a maximum $10 limit on what can be ordered via the drive-thru.

So if you're a stupid fuck'n soccer mom with a whole brood of squalling spawn and plan on ordering a bazillion dollars worth of shit, you have to park and go _inside the God dammed restaurant_ to make your order.

Either that, or don't go during the LUNCH HOUR RUSH, you empty-headed ding-bat!

Because it wouldn't have been a problem for me (or the dozen+ people behind me...) if the stupid fuck'n soccer mom hadn't ordered 9000 specially made items during the lunch hour rush.

The local McDonalds is very much on-the-ball and (if there isn't a stupid fuck'n soccer mom screwing it up) will usually have your food hanging out the window as you drive up.

I was stuck in line once and the car in front of me, no shit ordered like 7 combo meals. All with special instructions. She finally gets all her food and then she proceeds to pull up just a tad so you'll have to drive around her, gets out, opens the side of her minivan and feed all of her fucking kids right there in line. Nearly all of them were in car seats and she's feeding them combo meals. Yea I was mad and very hungry.

>Uh-huh.
>"Oh, I did not get four different toys. I need to trade these out"
>Ask her if it would be possible for her to come inside, as I have the next three orders ready to be handed out to the next people in line
>"Sweetie, I have kids. No way that is going to happen."
>Ask her if she can pull around front and we will walk out to her
>"I have places to be and I just want these toys swapped out, let me talk to your manager!"
>I am the current shift manager, we are really busy. I leave my post to go back to stock and look for more myself.
>Go figure, we do not have any but the current two, as we are at the end of a toy cycle.
>Sorry ma'am, we have no different toys.
>"I want a refund. This is absolutely ridiculous"

She ended up cussing me out in the drive thru, and demanded a refund and the free food plus coupons for next time for her 'inconvenience'.

Then I had to deal with complaints from the next people in line for waiting too long. Fun times.

As I mentioned, I didn't have anything at home to make for lunch.

> why are you getting so testy about needing it quickly

Because I only get a 1/2 for lunch and have to use that very limited amount of time to drive to McDonalds, wait in the drive-thru line, order my food, pay for it and get back to work so I can eat, hopefully leaving me 15 mins out of my 8 hour+ workday to take a fuck'n break.

An unemployed soccer mom has ALL DAY to do whatever the fuck she wants and shouldn't be using the drive-thru between 11:00-12:00 when the burger joint is swamped with people who have actual jobs and minimal time to eat.

This is just as shitty behavior as showing up at a restaurant 20mins before closing and asking for a 12-course meal, or a dozen people running the waitress ragged, then leaving a $1.50 tip, all of which you guys would be up-in-arms about.

>> No.6495315

Either that or the restaurant should accommodate for this by adding a "12 items or fewer" drive through.

I feel your pain on having to wait for food during lunch hour, though. I went to a local fish place, ordered a fried haddock sandwich (seriously takes like 60 seconds), waiting 15 minutes, went back and told them I only had 10 minutes to eat before going back to work.

His response? "So and so who ordered 20 things for his whole family was ahead of you, you have to wait."

I told him to refund me and that I was never going back to his shit hole.

Seriously pisses me off when restaurants directly targeting lunches can't figure out that most people have 30-60 minutes for lunch. Some even less.

What McDs needs to do is take a bulldozer to the drive-thru ordering menu/intercom. If you want to stay in your car, you'd order from browser or app and pay electronically (e.g. with a credit card), or you'd have to go inside. The browser or app displays an estimated time until it's ready, like any carryout/delivery-focused restaurant, adjusted in real time since they have networked order-tracking computers up the kazoo in every McD, and it displays when your order is actually ready for pickup, at which point you drive to the pickup window, authenticate who you are, and pick up your food. The whole "talk into a Alexander Graham Bell style intercom" model is so fucking over. As I mentioned up-thread, this McDonalds is very fast during the lunch hour rush and it's usually never a problem to get in and get out in a few mins.

The problem arises when a dumbass soccer mom with a mini-van load of little kids decides _this_ would be the perfect time to order dozens of specially made items. At that point, you've already burned X amount of your limited lunch time go to the restaurant and will only burn more time driving down the road to the next joint, where you'll roll the dice to see if another stupid soccer mom has gotten there before you.....

It's literally throwing a wrench into the system.

The soccer mom should either go before 11:00 or after noon, or the restaurant should immediately shuffle her off to the park-and-wait spot.

How so? You pull into the parking lot. You haven't yet commited to entering the drive-thru line yet. You then look at the line. If the line is short, you move your car to the line. If the line is long, you never even get into the line and you park instead.

>>if the soccer mom was the one ordering
Yes, that's true. Yet another reason to forgo the drive-thru line entirely and to park and go inside the restaurant instead.

>>unreasonable expectation
How so? It's a decision that takes less then a second to make. Heck, I usually determine whether to hit the line or the park before my car has even pulled into the restaurant. You can see the line from quite a distance away.

I think that some people are simply too lazy to get out of their vehicle and walk a little, even though it's faster overall. Either that or too socially anxious to go inside and talk to someone in person.

The drive-thru is much faster 99% of the time, as most people have jobs and need to get back to them in a hurry and thus ain't fuck'n around;

You know what *would* be 100% perfect? If the restaurant realized to whom they cater (poors, people in a rush) and set aside obscenely long orders during the lunch rush to prioritize individuals.

>Agreed. Thinking things through would involve bringing a lunch to work thereby completely avoiding the annoying delays and shit-tier food common to McD's.
Don't get me wrong-- I don't know why on earth OP thought McDonalds was acceptable for lunch. I get Wendy's every once in a great while, but I'm talking fewer than 4 times a year. Bringing a bagged lunch is smarter and cheaper, but sometimes I want to go out for lunch. Of course, for me, that means getting real food.

That being said, I'm not here to judge OP's taste in lunch food. I'm here to address the point that if a restaurant specifically caters to people on lunch breaks (as many do), they should be hyper sensitive to the single diner.

And if someone can't, there's always the door. Drive-thru should be like an express lane at grocery stores, it's not for everybody, it's for people who meet criteria that will allow them to get in and out fast. Don't meet the criteria? Numbers say otherwise. Especially if there's a comparable fast food joint nearby. Regulars are regulars because they know they will get consistency. Once that's disrupted, they bail. I've seen it happen.

I would be alienated by this. I don't want people bringing things out to me, once I've paid and grabbed the food, that's where human interaction ends. I don't like waiting for people, but I am fine with waiting for an entity composed of people.

At such a point, I would've just gone inside. The logistics of what you're suggesting are also a bit difficult to track and having (teenage) employees bring things out to people's cars would be publicly questioned to a degree.

I haven't eaten fast food in years. But yes, I remember.
>What's so bad about pulling up to the second window and them saying your order will take a bit, because it's so large and that they'll bring it out to you?
Because I don't like it. That can be traced to a number of finer reasons, but in a blunted sense, that's what it resolves to. It's not a good way to handle exceptions or edge cases, and indicates the underlying system needs to be refined with a more efficient way to alleviate major bottlenecks.

In a personal sense, I don't like things brought to me. It doesn't feel comfortable, and that isn't likely going to ever change. If I knew this was the case, I would've just gone inside. Maybe for other people this is fine, but I'm not other people.

That's because you aren't good at putting yourself in other people's shoes and figuring out how they work. Nor are you inclined to try, you're stuck on yourself. Autism is a convenient catch all, but it doesn't make your conclusions any less unintelligent.
>Actually, a lot of places do this[...]
I'd gather if you looked at how these places function, how they're engineered, and where they're located, you'd find it all conducive to that. You can't always take an existing system and change it like that, you start getting results you might not have expected.

Volume and throughput isn't all that influences how a chain is designed or how it functions internally. You're confusing your oversimplifications with usable knowledge that stands on its own.

Actually, yes, that's exactly how it is. Don't be so foolish, we're all disjointed and conflicting inside.
