I really want to lose some weight and i've decided the best way to be to cut back on the cereal i have and go with oatmeal instead. Does anyone know any good recipes to make it actually taste like something I want to eat?

Cinnamon and some frozen raspberries is my favorite oatmeal combo. I know other here probably go fancier, but whatever. When I'm making it for my stepson, I mix in cinnamon and unsweetened apple sauce, which is also pretty low calorie and delicious.

Not a fan of oatmeal. Potatoes in the pressure cooker are very filling. They cook in around 15 minutes in the steamer basket. add hot sauce and you're good to go.

Has anyone ever made oat bread? I made some last week and it was delicious. It was easily some of the best bread I've ever had and I will not hesitate to make it again.

Look up overnight oats. You basically just mix oats and water or any type of milk and they soak it up over night, "cooking" them ready to eat in the morning.

Anyway, you can use as much spices as you want. Cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, maybe allspice could all work.

Peanut/almond/cashew butter is a good addition that will keep you feeling full longer and give you both protein and fat. (which are good! go make this thread on /fit/ as well).

You can use unsweetened vanilla almond milk for a little extra taste, or find pure cocoa powder (it'll be bitter, though).

Honestly, though, just make some oatmeal for yourself, sit down, and slowly taste and eat it. See if you can find anything at all about it's taste, texture, etc, that you can enjoy plain by itself.

If you strongly dislike the taste you may want to try other healthy breakfasts. I'm assuming by cereal you meant like, children's cereal; so you're probably just used to super sweet things.

Cut out all added sugar for a week or two and you'll see a major change in your palate.

If you want to lose weight, eat whatever the fuck you want for breakfast and a small lunch and even smaller dinner.

Easy.

Nah, I actually have weet-bix and rice bubbles, its just that i'm so used to having a lot of it and i can't stand drinking it with skim milk, so some mix of oatmeal seems like a more palatable alternative

I didn't out oats on the top because it seemed like a hassle, but I am VERY pleased at how it turned out. I don't plan on not making oat bread any more since I make oat milk pretty often so it's an easy way to use up my leftover oat bits. Not a vegan, I just bought a shit ton of oats and I like the flavor.

OP, you don't necessarily have to give up cereal entirely if you want to lose weight. I've made a simple switch from off-brand Frosted Flakes stuff to bland shit like pic related. Add in a single packet of Stevia for flavour and some Non-fat milk you've got great results without sugar and shit fucking up your diet. Low fat yogurt with strawberries and blueberries works great too, if you want to change things up a bit. Hell, you can sub the milk in cereal for yogurt, but you'll probably want to use a thicker cereal like Bran or something, or else it'll basically become thick mush.

I've already lost about 10 pounds over the past two months just using a basic food tracker (DailyBurn Tracker). The big thing for me was better portion control, sleeping more than 2 hours a night and eating food with more calories, less carbs. I was averaging about 500-600g daily carbs, with like...1500 calories, when I should have been around 250g carbs and 1900-2100 calories. Feel better, eating better now. Shits legit, just don't expect instant results and don't weigh yourself for the first month or two, or else you are going to feel disappointed when things start to slow down.

My whole point is, you don't have to give up shit you love just to be more health, just be open to approaching what you eat in slightly more esoteric ways.

I know a couple good recipes, but they mostly entail a little butter for creaminess and I don't think it's within your interests to eat lots of butter. The simplest recipe (if you can even call it a recipe) us to smash up peaches and banana into the oatmeal. Tastes splendid and it's simple.

OP, add a small amount of salt, which will add some flavor. I cook enough oatmeal for one bowl...I'll typically slice half a small granny smith apple quite thinly, while the oats are cooking, and put that in my bowl, maybe a bit of cinnamon, sometimes a few walnuts, then dump the oatmeal on top and stir. It's not gonna be as flavorful as Froot Loops, or as delicious as cream & sugar-laden oatmeals, but once you get used to lower sugar meals it's enjoyable. It's decently quick, too, like start to finish is probably around five minutes (using "old fashioned" rolled oats).

I like mixing a serving of uncooked oats with some of those fruity Greek yogurt cups, the light "Great value" ones at WalMart, with half a cup of milk, and letting it sit over night. Though another trick to make them a bit more filling, at the compromise of a bit of texture is to nuke 40g with one and a half cups of water and a bit of salt for 4 minutes, then letting it stand in there for 5, then putting it in the fridge uncovered over night. They soak up the water, and become pretty voluminous. Almonds are also super tasty, with a bit of cinnamon and maple syrup, though that may not be in line with your weight loss goals. Though, you could opt for sugar free syrup. Also, PB2 is pretty good, 1/4 of a cup of it is 90 calories, 10g of protein and 3g of fat, and it makes them nice and thick. Also, strawberries and light reddiwhip are a pretty good combo, and there's something nice about pink oatmeal. Muesli, uncooked oats are also pretty good, especially with some kefir or yogurt.

If you don't mind the girly tone of the site, "Chocolate Covered Katie" has a lot of good oatmeal recipes.

Make steel-cut oatmeal. Takes like 40 minutes and it can refrigerate for a couple days, too.

I like adding a little molasses and cinnamon to mine, personally.

start with rolled, steel cut, or scottish ground oats, not the quick cooking or instant oats
add a sprinkle of salt if you'd like
cook in a mixture of milk and water, somewhere between 1:1 or 2:1
a) tablespoon or two of peanut butter and some cocoa powder
b) cinnamon and a teaspoon or two of brown sugar/maple syrup/honey
c) handful of fresh/frozen fruits/fruit puree/rote grutze/jam/apple butter

it's also good with a little pat of butter.

Compared to fresh, canned green beans have a very off, metallic taste to them.

Depending on the density of your salt, you'll want somewhere between 0.5 to 2 teaspoons of salt per cup of raw oats. Play around with the amount of water you add to change the consistency and mouthfeel as well

Add a little butter. Seriously. So long as you're cutting out sugars and processed grains - you are cutting out sugars and processed grains, aren't you? - extra fat won't make you gain weight, and oatmeal+butter will feel satisfying to eat and give you a nice slow burn of energy so you won't feel hungry later in the day and be tempted to snack. Add cinnamon or nutmeg for flavour. Don't add fruit and sugar and shit like other people are saying, that defeats the purpose.
