no croquettes have sort of mash in the middle, these are more hash brown-y, but with little cubes of firmer potato too. not had them since i was a bout 10. i fucking loved them.

I prefer "crowns" over tater tots. They're shaped more like discs than cylinders. Pic related.

The flatter shape makes them easier to pan fry if you only want a few to go with a small meal. Gotta fire up the oven or deep fryer for tater tots.

I was really craving Friendly's the other day. I used to live in New Jersey and we'd eat there a lot, but I haven't been there in years. All of a sudden this week I just wanted to eat a whole huge meal at Friendly's and top it off with that sundae.

I've been craving sushi for months but I'm also really reluctant to try a lot of sushi because I'm afraid of it not being what I'm wanting. So much mediocre sushi out there.

I don't have a deep fryer so I don't ever deep fry anything at home. This means that I don't have any frying oil on hand. At most I'll have about 1L of olive oil in the cupboard.

Buy oils other than just olive oil, for starters. You can deep fry in canola or vegetable oil if you don't go too high with the temp. All you need is a saucepan. A thermometer helps but isn't required if you're careful.

I don't avoid deep frying because I'm scared of it or anything, I just don't really like most deep fried foods usually. This was a pretty random craving for me. Last time I had anything deep friend it was McDonalds at a drunken 2am about 3 years ago.

Tater tots are just about my least favorite ways of eating potatoes.
