I was totally let down by the wedge salad and I'm unsure if it was actually bad or not. Depends on the restaurant. I've had good wedge salads and bad wedge salads. One of the best I've had used grilled romaine as the base. You're not going to get a good wedge salad at any chain restaurant, no matter how "upscale" the chain might be. Good wedge salads are like chasing any other good food product, either you spend time searching them out, or you have to make them yourself.

When it comes food the bourgeois, for all their tiresome judgment on what may be beneath them do tend have decent taste. Because a life of privilege exposes one to things like fine dining, luxury foods, travel and even living abroad.

Given the choice of dinner with the bourgeois or chicken Caesar salad at a chain restaurant with the common man I'd opt for the bourgeois every time. The conversation will be dull in both instances, but the food will be much better in the former.

I get that English speakers have a little trouble with this idea, since Americans like to pretend class doesn't exist, and the English are trying to overcome their own historic issues with it. Good potato salad is something to die for. It's a Christmas food for my family (fried fish and potato salad)

It started as a specialty of steakhouses. Then it went mainstream in the 1960s. Then, it disappeared for several decades. Now, it's been brought back by steakhouses and other restaurants as a nostalgic throwback.
