I like the artwork on them, they last for fucking EVER if you have to use them as emergency lighting, and they are dirt cheap. It's a fun and unusual way to add some flare to your decor for next to nothing.

Well yeah, this thread sucks. I love Fighting Cock though. A fifth runs me about $19 here. I just can never justify not spending the extra dollar on Wild Turkey 101.

As for dinner, I didn't take any pictures, but I made linguine Puttanesca and a vinaigrette salad. Drinking this cheap as shit Merlot. Earlier I had an Anchor Saison which was pretty choice and an Averna with tonic while I was cooking.

Your dinner sounds tasty and you have pretty decent taste in booze.

>> No.6353446

So this seems like as good a place as any to ask. What bourbon would you suggest to someone who hates bourbon. I love Scotch, Irish whiskey and even rye whiskey. There's just something about bourbon that doesn't appeal to me. I've had Maker's Mark, JD and Jim Beam so I don't want to write off the style altogether on the back of the 3 most pleb brands but I don't want to waste another 20 bucks.

Wild Turkey, especially their Rare Breed bottling. Also Blanton's, Booker's and Eagle Rare. Go to a bar a that has a large selection and try them a glass at a time so that you don't have to commit to buying a whole bottle.

I'll try Wild Turkey and Knob Creek since they're probably available at most liquor stores. Just as an aside did you suggest these for any reason other than that you like them? As in do they they have any quality that is markedly different to the ones I've already tried.

>As in do they they have any quality that is markedly different to the ones I've already tried.

Bourbon mash must be at least 51% corn according to US law. What the other 49% is makes a huge difference in the taste of the whiskey. Some distillers (especially Maker's and Jim Beam) use a fucking shitload of wheat which imparts a bit of a sickly sweet taste. The ones I mentioned use a lot of barely and rye. The barely will give you the malty flavor you like in Scotch/Irish and the rye adds spicy notes that cut through the sweetness of the corn.

>> No.6353525

>>6353480
That's actually a great response.
>Some distillers (especially Maker's and Jim Beam) use a fucking shitload of wheat which imparts a bit of a sickly sweet taste.
This is exactly my problem with it I just wasn't able to put my finger on it. With Jim Beam and JD it's exacerbated because if the almost gasoline like effervescence they have. Makers Mark was a bit better but the sweetness completely ruined the charcoal flavour.
