Let's have a beer thread. What are guys drinking? What do you prefer? What do you recommend?

Right now, I'm trying to deplete my stash. Happened to find a bunch of seasonal brews. Pic related is what I'm drinking right now. Used to really like this shit. It's nice to have every once in a while. Don't really care for it now. Shit's like slightly alcoholic apple cider. Not even good apple cider. I guess it's alright as that sort of thing goes. But I'm not really into it anymore. Also, what do you guys think of Shock Top in general? Are they /ck/ approved or what?

I haven't had shock top, but if seems up the same alley that Blue Moon is, and that just tastes like soapy malt water to me.

>>6312512
Lol. I haven't had Blue Moon, so I can't speak to that. I'd say that you should try their raspberry wheat. Shit's pretty good. Wouldn't describe it as soapy or watered down. Though, technically, it is a malt. I think.

shock top is total dogshit beer mate, sorry. if you like it, good for you, keep enjoying it. but myself, and the other beer snobs here, will never want to drink a bunch of shocktops. I've had a few, including two of the one you posted, it was not disgusting by any means, but once you've had some really really good beer you won't have much interest in drinking something as blah as a shocktop. anyway not trying to be a dick, but you might get some hate on this board.

Personally, I like wheat beer. You'll have to find a local shop that sells craft beers, and just take a look, maybe ask someone to help you on what to choose. I'll list some stuff, but craft beer can be a very regional thing. Another thing to consider is that everyone's tastes are different, so you gotta find your own, there is A LOT out there.

Troegs Dreamweaver
Lonerider Shotgun Betty
Flying Dog In Heat Wheat
Magic Hat Circus Boy
UFO Hefeweizen

German breweries, most stuff is excellent, if it is somewhat fresh:
Weihenstephaner
Franziskaner
Hacker-Pschorr
Schneider

all this is just one style of beer (the Germans make a lot more than one style), and who knows you might HATE this style of beer. A store with a single or mix n' match option would be great for you to try a lot of stuff out and see what you're into.

>> No.6312927

>>6312911
I've heard of a few of those actually including that hefeweizen you mentioned. I happen to be German-American, so I have some knowledge of German breweries. My cousin brews his own beer and always let's me have a case or two. Shit's awesome. Anyway. Thanks for the recommendations. I'll be sure to check them out!

>> No.6313619

>>6313594
Absolutely! Most are going to have at least some amount of bitterness, but less than others. Some breweries indicate the beer's IBU, which is basically a numerical estimation of how bitter a beer is. If the provider doesn't have it, you can look up the beer on beeradvocate. If you look for beers with low IBUs, you'll probably find something you like.

Here it is with my steak and mountain of corn. It's a dark red color with a huge head that runs over the top. Carbonation is almost budweiser level. So far, pretty unexpected for a dubbel.

Tastes of prunes, raisins, and stone fruit. Nothing citrusy about this one for me - think a yeasty troegenator. The yeast on the finish can be too much for me, almost making a metallic taste. Cinnamon, coriander (?), and brown sugar accented the fruity yeast and made it a good pairing for my dinner. Almost no taste of alcohol, which makes sense for the 7% and spiced flavor.

Overall, 7/10. Enjoyed it, but would not buy again at the $4.50 a bottle price point.
