So yeah. Basically cooking isn't that hard.

It more depends on what you're hungry for and what you have. If I were you I'd try to find some pizza recipes, pizza is hard to fuck up and a tasty place to start.

I wouldn't worry about making your dough this time, takes a while to rise.

I would want you to order something and pick it up on your way over. That way the kitchen isn't too mucked up for the night with dishes and pots and you put more effort into it than heating up a frozen dinner or whatever a ready meal is taken to mean. She wants you to make the decision, so she doesn't want to be bugged about it.

Don't be a fool, man, if you can't cook practice on your spare time. Just order something if that's what she wants. Learning to cook, even learning to cook one single thing isn't just reading the recipe. There are careful nuances that take experience to master.

Learning to cook (or learning anything really) shouldn't be something you do on the fly, pressed for time, and worried about it.

Depends on your relationship with her.

Don't bring ready made meals, which I assume mean microwaveable food. If you order out, make sure you order from somewhere safe, something you both like. If it's still early in the relationship then I would try to cook a meal with her and just have fun. If it tastes like shit, you can still order out.

Just make sure that you have something else planned, like a movie to watch together or a game that youboth like. You could also turn regular board games int sex games and girls like that sort of shit. They want guys that take initiative.

There's tons man, but my point is that this isn't the time to START. If you already had something simple you knew how to do well, I would say do it, whatever it is, but this last minute shit is a common pitfall. I don't understand why people are so try hard when all signs point to learning the right way.

You're trying to impress someone with a skill you don't have!! It shouldn't be hard to see where you are going wrong. Just order something and pick it up on the way. I am a decent cook and even then I would opt to order out since it sounds like you are doing this at HER house.

tl:dr Don't try to impress someone with a skill you don't have.

Sure, there is. But we have no idea what your skills are, what your budget is, what equipment you have at your disposal, what you or your GF like. Fuck we don't even know what style of food you want. Even if we give you a recipe we don't know if you're understanding it or not. If I tell you to saute the mushrooms do you know what that means? I can't be arsed to spell out every little detail.

It's too much work to help you.

no, you are reading WAY to much into this. The point is to eat something relatively hassle free and that you both like, you are not being graded on this portion. If you don't know how to cook, what makes you think your GF is a good guinea pig for you?

Haven't you seen like all the hundreds of animes where this is one of the most cliche scenarios? someone who doesn't know how to cook and decides to try to make something for someone they want to impress and in the end they are all sitting around with a pained look, forcing themselves to eat it so as to not hurt their feelings about how bad it turned out?

It's not to me, but if you just tell some kid that has never cooked before to throw some onions on the pan until they are caramelized, You'll probably come back to a kitchen full of smoke and the smoke detector going off. I've sauteed all kinds of shit, but I know enough that I don't even think about the details like most people. This guy would need his hand held on temperature, smell, look, taste, everything.

This just isn't the time to start. I really don't get why he wants to impress someone with a skill he doesn't have. Doesn't that seem retarded?

>I'm an abysmal cook
If this is the case I would not cook for the gf. You'd just be setting up the awkward situation where you're both choking down a shitty meal you made, and she has to be polite about it. If the relationship lasts for years she will always remember what a shit cook you used to be.

Of course you want to get to the point where you can cook for her, so it's obviously time to learn. You just don't want to feed her your earliest experiments. You want to replicate your early successes for her.

i made pizza yesterday. i almost never cook fucking anything, like seriously i eat toast and eggs and that's pretty much it.

it was easy.

> flour + yeast, water, sugar, oil. mix, knead, let it rest of an hour.
> form a pizza somehow. i just pounded that dough into submission till it was pizza-formed.
> top it with cheese and tomato sauce
> add whatever you enjoy
> season it. done.

for toppings i used feta, olives, a just a little salad, sliced cucumber, tomatoes; all of that cut into little bite sized pieces. it's a fucking pizza though so there's not much you can do wrong.

it turned out really nice. the dough was a little bit more "al dente" and less perfectly rounded than what you get at a pizzeria, but that gave the homemade feeling. tasted amazing. i am not shitting you, this is pretty failsafe. plus everyone loves pizza

actually have another one in the oven right now cus i had leftover ingridients

You know op, I bet you are probably good at different things. If you are an abysmal cook, why not impress her with something you are good at instead of grasping at straws at the last minute? I know a couple of guys that don't know anything about cooking, but make enough money that they don't have to, and nobody seems to mind.

lol. If you want to make an impression then write her a poem or something, you know? If you say, "But I'm not a poet" Then I would say, you aren't a cook either, are you?

Unless you want to make her a cup of ramen or something, don't expect to just suddenly become master chef because you want your gf to think you can cook. There's tons of easy shit, but you probably wont' get it right the first time.

I mean, Spaghetti is just boiled noodles, drain, and add sauce, but I wouldn't recommend even that unless you've done it before, or you and your gf don't mind learning together, but that won't accomplish your apparent goal of being impressive alpha cook or whatever it is you are trying to do.

EU has stricter food regulations. a lot of stuff that's allowed in the US (GMOs, pesticides, antibiotics, etc) is more heavily regulated here. that's what drives the prices up, plus EU is much more densely populated, farm land is probably a lot more expensive + petrol is cheaper in the US (about half) so transport is cheaper, too. mean wages are crapper in the US as well, makes the food cheaper too.

nope, eating out is rather expensive, I heard that it was an american thing to eat out all the time, is that right or a load of rubbish?
>whats the average cost of a meal, say a dish, a salad and a drink?
entirely depends on where you are, what you eat, what place you're eating out at etc. generalising is hard when there's so much potential variation
>is all the food pre-prepared?
all? like literally all food? because no
>is it more processed? do you just buy salads from anyone?
no idea about 'more' processing, you can buy completely organic stuff or heavily processed stuff if you want

You must have one special thing, when i am stuck i go for my mums pasta bake, it tastes fucking good and i can say it's my mothers recipe so it feels like i went out of my way to make something special when in reality i just made a shitty pasta bake which my mum showed me how to cook when i was a kid.

You could just buy take away food, or go to a decent place and ask if they will do take away just this one time? tell your girlfriend you burnt what you was making or some shit so went plan B.

If you really are a shit cook and NEED to make something, stick to something basic that is hard to fuck up that bad. If you do use frozen foods, you can make a salad as a side, also add shit to the frozen foods, my father would add salt to frozen chips before cooking them, they would always come out sort of like macdonalds fries and seem like he had done a great job when really he just through salt on frozen food so it would cook into it over time.
