I have an Angus Ribeye in the fridge... I have had an exhausting day and I worked through my lunch break so I'm starving.

Problem is, the only oil I have is olive oil. Is it haram to cook a manly-ass steak in a pussyfaggot oil like olive oil?

>> No.6225083

>>6225081

If the steak looks like that, you won't be needing any oil.

>> No.6225084

No, fucking olive oil is the shit. Greek gods use that shit to masterbate

>> No.6225089

dude you may as well just throw that shit in the trash if you're gonna use olive oil

Just cut off a bit of the fat, that strip is pretty thick. Fry that up first, and you'll have the oil you need to fry the steak.

Olive oil will smoke pretty badly at proper steak searing temp.

STOP.

I have been on 4chan for a long, long time, I rarely lurk these days but came across your thread tonight. I will tell you what to do.

Remove the steak from the packaging, lightly apply about a dime size of olive oil to both sides and massage it in. THEN after you rubbed in the oil, cracked black pepper, and sea salt both sides. let sit out about 45 minutes (or closer to room temp). Set oven to 450 degrees, put cast iron, or oven safe pan inside prior to heating. when oven is preheated put on a glove you fucking faggot and turn burner to high 8/10 if electric, wait about 30 secs for it to warm, pull out hot pan (with glove hand dumbass) place on burner, throw steak on for 30 seconds. throw slice of butter in pan, grasp pan handle allow all juices to run down to curve in pan (against burn) and use tongs to hold fat back in bubbling oil/butter/juice for about 30 seconds, then lay on other side for 30 seconds. Put pan in oven for 2 or 3 mins, flip steak and again, light tent for 2 or 3 mins on plate.

Total time, no more than 11 minutes. itll be medium rare, 2 mins a side for more rare, if the steak isn't pre frozen eat it rare as fuck you pussy.

this is an absolute myth. You do not need a crazy hot pan to achieve a good brown sear on your steak

>> No.6225173

>>6225130
That makes sense. When I saw the steak the first thing I thought was 'ugh that giant fat strip' --and I like fat on my steak, thank you.

How much do you think I will need to cut to make the oil?

>>6225146
>butter

If I had butter I wouldn't be having this problem

>> No.6225181

>>6225165
Maybe not, but at lower temps the sear would take longer to achieve, and thus may result in an overcooked steak.
You should adjust your cooking temperature based on the thickness and desired doneness of your steak.

Btw my electric skillet goes up to 400 degrees American, and that's it.

>> No.6225192

>>6225081
one interesting thing you can do is sear one side of the steak in the pan with olive oil, then put the pan in the oven at a HOT temperature for another 5min or so, and serve the steak seared side up. The top will have the crispy seared texture and the bottom will be as rare as the middle and almost melt in your mouth.

I typically do this with Filet Mignon when I rarely buy them, but it should work on a Ribeye too.

NONE, don't cut anything, don't cut into it until you're done cooking and ready to eat.

dont worry about the butter if you don't have it, spoon the fond onto the steak as it cooks if possible.

very low smoke point

Rather than creating a new thread i'll just ask here. What is a good marinade for steak? Preferably something that gives a hint of spicy BBQ. Also it'd be best if it only had to marinade not more than 24h.

>> No.6227346

>>6225739

Depends on what you're talking about.
Normal (refined) olive oil has a very high smoke point. There's nothing wrong with cooking a steak in that.
EVOO, on the other hand, is low.

>>6227259
>What is a good marinade for steak?

For what purpose, anon? You trying to tenderize crappy steaks to improve their texture, or are you simply trying to add flavor?

>> No.6227361

>>6227349
Generally trying to add a bit of spicy flavour. Also a small part because of it is because I'm not getting the stake from my butcher but my supermarket instead.

>> No.6227367

>>6227361

If all you want to do is add a little spice then I'd just season the steak with a little red pepper (cayenne) in addition to the normal S&P before you cook it.

If you are concerned about tenderness (e.g. you bought a steak with crappy marbling) then you want a marinade with something acidic in it. Something like a little lime juice, some neutral flavored oil, molasses (for the sweet BBQ thing you mentioned), and some chili pepper would be good.

Wow seems to be easier than i thought. Thanks

if you're using EVOO yes, but I get quite high temps on my normal non-virgin olive oil without any smoke or burnt flavor whatsoever.

However if i decide to marinate it can i go with thyme, pepper, mustard powder, obliterated garlic with cayenne and use it to marinate the steaks overnight?
>yfw upon reading this

>> No.6227583

>>6227576

Sure, you could do that. I'm not sure why you'd use that in a marinade though, rather than just seasoning the steak with it. With no oil and no acid it's not going to matter if you put it on the steak right before cooking or if you leave it for a long time.
