how do alcoholics stand the hangovers?

i found my hangovers got worse and worse with age. it used to be i could drink copious amounts of vodka, pass out, and then wake up feeling completely fine -- refreshed even.

now when i get drunk, i wake up to a whole day of misery: dizziness, nausea, intense headaches, fatigue.

i've talked to buddies and apparently this is normal. your body just can't processes and expel the toxins as you get older.

my drinking slowed WAY down 'cause of this. i thought i was an alcoholic when i was younger, but i'm not one anymore.
