Hey /ck/, over the holidays I found an old spice rack like pic related in my mother's house. Most of the jars are empty so I was thinking of refilling them with some of my own spice mixes (basic curry powder, basic garlic & herb mix, etc).

So my question is what are some good spice mixes you can recommend to me?

2 1/2 tablespoons paprika
2 tablespoons salt
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon dried thyme

if you have your basic spices you can mixed them every time you need them...
and why use dried herbs or garlic? is fresh garlic impossible to find where you live?

It's mostly because I'm lazy and would like some ready made mixes on hand.

I use the dried stuff because I'm between jobs and live alone so I see no point to cook top notch for myself. If I know I have guests coming then I always buy fresh everything.

Fresh everything isn't always best, dried WHOLE spices are good for a looking time.

Having said that, look at my chili pepper powder. LOOK AT IT!

2 parts cumin powder
1 part ground black pepper powder
1 part ground cayenne pepper powder

That's my go-to spice. I also use ground Hungarian Wax pepper, but those I grew, dried, and ground myself and don't add to a mix.
