I hate new years resolutions. If you're going to do something, just do it. If you have to pick a symbolic date for it, it means you really didn't want to do it.

That said, if you want to go clean and now is the time, that's great.

>Fortunately, I have self control and I also don't enjoy feeling sick so I don't and wont ever have a drinking problem.

Doesn't have to be that way. I used to get sick from two glasses of anything, which was a major social impediment, so I made a point of drinking half a glass a day for months, then a glass a day, then two so I could keep up with social activities.

Years of that go by and I'm drinking 3-4 glasses a night. I've only gone a few days without alcohol in the last few years and they were all unusual circumstances. I simply can't imagine life without it.

Pretty sure this counts as alcoholism even though I'm not falling down drunk, living on the streets, or drinking in the morning.

The difference is one of physical dependency. Anyone can quit weed without going through withdrawl symptoms more severe than ennui. Ever have your dealer / source disappear? Besides being grumpy about not being able to get high, there's no side effects to stopping weed cold turkey. Alcohol has severe, potentially life-threatening withdrawl symptoms.

Basically if you're dependent on weed in any way it's because you're mentally weak to begin with. Sorry, but it's true.

Two of the people I did opiates with became addicts, the main person I did amphetamines with still does them to this day, and 2 of the people I did psychedelics with wound up in mental wards and one of them disappeared to go become a shaman or some shit. I never had any of it happen to me despite doing all of it with them and on my own to. I just stopped. I think I can handle having a beer or a glass of wine a day and maybe getting not eve drunk enough to have a hangover once or twice a week if I want to.

No shit Sherlock. A lot of people don't want to give up something that feeds into the enjoyable parts of their dark behavior, but they know for the greater good of themselves that they should quit. It's an internal struggle, and by setting a symbolic date to quit, you give yourself a short moment to prepare and let's you commit to the better decision.

If this was June and that comment was made, then maybe it would make sense. But not right now.

when you lie down to sleep, be aware of your breathing. slow your breathing down to...

>inhale for 3 seconds
>hold for a brief second
>exhale for 3 seconds
>hold for brief second
>repeat

continue this for say like 15 minutes. eventually youll feel "the twitch", which is some motir reflex that your body does to check if your asleep or some shit. thats your go ahead sign that its working and youll be asleep within 5. prior to the twitch you may also find yourself hearing random shit, whatevs.

If you find that you have a problem with managing your life because of alcohol then you might want to consider quitting or try some controlled drinking. On a health note, booze is pretty bad for you. AA doesn't go out and preach about sobriety and their program works. It's focus is on the individual, their sobriety, and spirituality. Those programs of recovery are used for people who can not rely on themselves. If people who have the ability to do that on their own, good for them. Honestly, shut the fuck up, you're annoying.

People drink because they drink. Sometimes it gets out of control for whatever reasons, (they like the feeling, going on a bender, trying to drink through Hangovers, to forget about everyday situations, to sleep better at night, to relax, to drink in a social situation, to have a good time) whatever it may be. An addiction is just that, an addiction. Some people just can't stop.

Yea, I have to go to 5 a week but I pretty much go to one a day. Nah, I'm not religious. They don't push it too hard on individuals, they just say "this worked for me" or "i suggest.." Several people even say that they weren't into religion at all when they first started going to meetings but eventually they had a "spiritual awakening" which most people suggest is necessary for the 12 steps to work.

I'm only about 4 months in and have a sponsor but haven't technically done step 2 yet. My "higher power" is the group at the meeting I normally go to. I guess doing it by myself never worked but so far so good this time around.
