ground beef formed into a patty...

how simple do you want this?

Literally this.
If you need to 'add' shit to your meat to make it taste good, you need to buy better meat.

yeah, seconding this.

Don't anything to the meat ever. Also use a cast iron pan to cook it.

Just watch the matty matheson video on how to make the perfect cheeseburger.

There was a recipe online I use but I can't find it now, so I'll just write it down. I moved abroad from the US and couldn't find good/cheap pub burgers so I just started making them myself. I've tried lots of recipes, but this is my favorite.

I find these more than juicy enough even with 10-12% fat ground beef, but you may prefer more.

1. Form meat into loose patties, basically you want to handle the meat as little as possible. Ball it and gently press it down into a patty. Salt and pepper liberally. I also add a bit of paprika.

2. Slice some onions, just leave them in ring form.

3. Put the burger on a hot skillet. Immediately place the rings of onions on the raw side facing up. Cook for 2-4 minutes.

4. Flip the patty it so the onions are cooking underneath the burger. Add cheese. Cover, cook 2-3 minutes.

Let it sit for 2-3 minutes and enjoy with the onions. Cooking the burger on them makes it taste really good.

This, except I like to chop the onions in little fragments and stick them both sides or inside the meat when I ball it up. Salt, pep, or just Lowry's seasoned salt is a good thing. Sometimes I add a little BBQ sauce to the meat before cooking. I prefer the grill, but a skillet is fine too. Also some crushed up bacon is good to stick in there too, i prefer to cook it before putting it the patty but you can stick it in raw too, it's wonderful either way.

don't do this. you get sort of boiled/steamed onion fragments in your burger instead of nice fried caramelized ones.
