There's an alcoholic thread and an anti-IPA thread, but no beer thread.

First time buying Bell's Porter and I'm very impressed. Complementing it with a nice slice of pepperoni, pickle jalapeno, goat cheese and artichoke pizza.

What's /ck/ been sipping on?

Anyone /Brew/ here? I am studying to get my bjcp cert and have recently joined a home brew club. I would love to have an online study buddy. Would it be inappropriate to make my own /brew/ thread?

My room mate is ex marine stationed in okagawa. Apparently they have this festival for Orion beer. This beer even has its own theme song. So my buddy has not been able to find this beer since he has gotten back to the states, after years of searching he found it last night. He was so ecstatic he purchased every bottle thy had in the store.

It's just way too fucking heavy for me, personally. I spent about 2 hours taking tiny sips of it, and it was definitely enjoyable.

Tasted kinda like cherries, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, and bourbon. Pretty much what you'd expect from a bourbon-barrel aged stout.

But to be honest, I was getting a little tipsy after half of it and needed to drive pretty soon, so I sipped it for about 2 hours then poured the other 1/3 of it down the drain.

At $8 per 12oz. bottle, I won't buy this beer again.

The regular breakfast stout is very good, but going back to my original point, many breweries produce a very good beer that is in wide circulation. As it happens, many of those even happen to be imperial stouts, because let's face it, imperial stouts are delicious, easy to love, crowd-pleasing beers.

I just don't think they deserve the kind of gushing adoration that they get. I like them, but the way people talk them up you'd think they were like the midwest version of Russian River, but I'd put them even below Great Lakes or Brooklyn. Certainly below Bell's.

Not that Beer Advocate is hugely useful for much, but just take a glance down the ABV columns. Notice something? How many are over 10% ABV? Yeah, you don't know shit about beer.

What you have in mind are imperial stouts, a specific style. The ubiquitous stout option the world over, Guinness, has about as much alcohol per volume as a Budweiser. One of my personal favorites, Samuel Smith's oatmeal stout, has about the same.

It makes zero sense to tell someone, "why would you have a stout (as opposed to some other beer) before driving?"

I wish Bell's would get their shit together.

I've tried most of their beers, and they make one good IPA (Two Hearted) and one good stout (Expedition). All else I've tried it meh at best.

The Two Hearted, though, is glorious.

So I just bought the Sierra Nevada Snowpack. Honestly I am not impressed at all. The IPA is "balanced", pretty much as decent and unoffensive as can be. The Boomerang is more interesting, pretty floral, but still not very interesting. The porter is watery and underwhelming - honestly it reminds me of Guiness but slightly better tasting and it is a porter not a stout. The Coffee Porter is delicious but still not particularly interesting.

All in all, none of them were bad, but none of them were very good. I have been going through Founders line up recently and Sierra Nevada is sort of boring in comparison, though not bad.

It's because they're women. No, you don't need a vagina to be a woman. If you hate all IPAs across the board, you are a woman. IPAs are manly, tough, and bitter, the same sensations you experience after surviving a battle on a wide open field against a legion of charging knights in platemail and starving spearmen with nothing to lose but everything to gain by skewering your ass. Women don't understand battle or manliness, so they despise it, and anything that reminds them of it. IPAs are one of those reminders of what it means to be a man, and the haters are no longer, or never were such.

sierra Nevada ipa it sucks. do most or any know that ipa was loaded with extra hops to make the curve under south america? (fresh water goes stagnant and breeds - things, beer, normal 4-6 % might last a week or maybe two. IPA load it with enough hops that it is an affront to beer makers everywhere, even India (kingfisher) or Japan. just kidding of course. Beer is great tradition from ancient Egypt to today .certainly, during the middle ages it saved many lives(drinking non boiled water was ill advised) hopps are good, I guess I just dont like too many. Becks is ok, Heineken too much, but I'm an Amerifat and I like bud, miller or coors.I bought Yuengling in college, thinking it was asian .wait a damn min, they came from ober their...) sorry, I like beer. at social or church (no need to lie )or sporting events its much easier to contain.com on, could you imagine if they sold jack at the super bowl or the soccer games. more than what people carry in? aye.ya aye..,My DAD was a cop 30 years. he said we can only do what the people want us to. dont tear stuff up. some one has to clean it up
