Why won't people listen to cookery advice?

This is my mother's roast dinner:
>slow-cooked pork loin steaks
>unseasoned mashed potato
>boiled broccoli
>boiled sprouts
>boiled cauliflower
>boiled carrots
>boiled, unseasoned mashed swede
>all of this is unseasoned
>nothing is roasted

I try to help her and tell her that there are different ways to cook vegetables other than just boiling them in unsalted water. But she won't listen. I try to teach her how to season but she won't do that either.

What can I do to help?

Tell her to stop liking what you don't like.

I've tried but even though she enjoys my cooking a lot, she won't listen when I tell her how to recreate it.

I wouldn't mind if she acknowledged her flaws, but she pretends as if her cooking is the best. If it was a case of 'I can't be bothered to make the effort', then I would get it. But it's as if she thinks that boiling everything is genuinely THE best way to cook.

Get her drunk, she'll pass out on a couch, then make the food, she'll wake up and be polite, tell her that she made it and everyone is enjoying her great skill as a cook.

Diplomacy.

You know what, that's totally the best approach, but I just find it hard to ignore my frustration.

How like an obama type, not quite getting the point, but then socialists never do, and they never will.

If she likes it, who cares? Don't humiliate your mother, just let her have this.

I'm not trying to humiliate her, I'm trying to teach her how to cook well.

>> No.6042558

i mean, the food could look worse dude. why dont you get her into aromatics and fresh herbs? even if you boiled those veggies with onions and garlic and bay leaf and rosemary, it'd still taste good.

look i sort of helped my mum get better at cooking myself. i didn't criticise her, just cooked for her when i came round and over time she absorbed some of the stuff i'd learned. she still avoids seasoning food because she's squeamish about sodium and shit but what are ya gonna do. let her do what she wants.
