ok /ck/ lets get another al/ck/ thread going.
have a pretty bad story that will make me swear off alcohol for a long time.

>night before thanksgiving go out drinking
>drive home really wasted
>hit a patch of ice on the road around the corner and take out a telephone pole
>police come, I get arrested booked and thrown in the drunk tank
>they put me there for 24 hours so I miss all of thanksgiving sitting alone in the jail
>still have to pay court fees, probably gonna get probation and have to do community service and take classes
>probably the most down I've been in my entire life

So yeah... I think my days of alcohol drinking are done for awhile.

>> No.6018330

I feel you op. I've had 2 dui's myself. I quit drinking almost 3 years ago. I had a little relapse recently that lasted 4 weeks. I decided to quit again though. Been off booze for 2 weeks. Been doing kratom like a mofo though

I took out a telephone pole last year and was hit with DUI hit and run. Blew a .18. it was 10 am. To be fair, I'd been up for 3 days before smoking glass. anyways, enjoy your dui. It's really hard to find good employment with that on your record. At least all this is true in California, where I live.

This. Got mine in 2011. .304 at 8am. Wasn't even driving. The god damn waitress at Perkins called me and my girl in for being "obviously high on something" and they swarmed me when we went out to my truck. 30 days in county, 2 years probation, 48 hours community service, and 86 hours therapy.

I'm from colorado as well. I had my first dui in february of this year. I watched the superbowl at detox. My biggest advice is to start classes right away. When you do go to court, they'll make you do random UA's and BA's until the end of your alcohol education / therapy. If you start earlier, the randoms will be less. I started class 2 weeks after my DUI. I only had 3 months of randoms. Most people do 9 months to a year.

Unless you drive for a living or operate heavy machinery, this is BS. I got a deuce in Cali and had no problem passing background checks and getting jobs until it was off my DMV record (which just happened, BTW).

I guess I was lucky in that I got mine in 2003, so my penalties weren't so bad. 24 hours community service, DUI classes, a fine, and a restricted license. No jail time, even the night I got nailed -- they let me call a friend to pick me up and the cops parked my car for me instead of impounding it.

well, this has turned into a moral shit-flinging contest. ultimately, a man (or woman) takes responsibility for their actions at the end of the day. if they are able to drive drunk without a hitch, that is the definition of a victimless crime. however, know that you're always playing with a half-loaded revolver when you do so.

I drive too much drunk and sadly like driving drunk (it's fun). I actually drive very well drunk but I always figure it's just probability. If I get pulled over for some BS and they breathalyze then I'm fucked. I've actually got pulled over buzzed twice and one time pretty trashed and got away with it, which has made me think I got off lucky and to be safer. The time I was trashed the cop totally suspected too and was asking questions but when he followed me after I drove off (speeding ticket) I drove perfectly fine so he eventually pulled off and I got away.

Have multiple friends who have had DUIs and a couple people I know got multiple DUIs. Also got my car totaled by some old dude on his 3rd DUI and later he got a 4th (he was a retarded drunk).

Even if you drive like a pro drunk eventually it just takes 1 cop to suspect something and breathalyze you and you're toast and out of a lot of $. 1 friend even had to have a breathalyzer deal in his car and that's incredibly embarrassing if you're on a date or meeting someone new.

DUIs are fairly common though so don't let it get you down too much. Many employers will understand, good or bad.

Alcoholics tend to eat little actual food. When you drink regularly, you start losing appetite. So then when you're deprived of your daily dose your body starts demanding proper food.

Also, if you're addicted, you'll get cravings. These can be specific and/or non-specific. In other words, your body might not actually know what it's craving, so it misfires and instead of alcohol (or alongside it), it will crave food.

That's a very basic rundown of the issue.

That's completely dependent on your BAC and tolerance. It's widely agreed that a BAC of 3 permille/0.3 % (I have no idea what unit Americalps or Britbongs measure this in) is the threshold for noticable impairment in terms of being fit to drive. That's half a pint (0.33 l), to make it more tangible.

In several European countries, that's the upper limit you're still allowed to drive at. If you fuck up though and run someone over or even if the police see you driving in a weird way, you're still fucked.

So, tl;dr, I don't know where you live and I don't know about your alcohol laws, but 1 shot is pushing it, 2 shots is definitely too many if you aren't an advanced alcoholic.

That's a great chart (further cements my opinion of erowid as a good site) because it clearly states that the only really safe driving limit is 0.00. People kid themselves into thinking they're unaffected by alcohol but they're not. Depending on several factors, as this chart shows, even one drink can significantly affect your driving skills. And that means that even below this threshold, your driving skills may not actually be significantly affected, but they ARE affected. Meaning, at 0.00 you might've not hit that street light or that deer or that drunk guy.

If you'e gonna drink and drive, at least realise you're nowhere near your sober driving skills.

tfw i drove rally, and also drive drunk very well

pro tip for all noob kids who like to drive drunk
put a sign above your speedometer that says "YOURE DRUNK, DRIVE EXACTLY 5km OVER THE SPEED LIMIT,
STAY IN YOUR LANE YOU IDIOT"

driving too slow and weaving is jailbait. drive like an average joe who thinks hes slightly above the law and stay straight. weaving and swerving and extreme red flags for police. if you can see a cop in your rear view who isnt making moves, do not change speed and keep it straight. if are not in the right most lane, change lanes to the right and give the cop way. if you are in the right most lane, maintain your speed and stay straight.

highway patrol officers are kind of like cats in a weird way
>they hide in odd places to catch you off guard
>they move around the roads *just* slightly faster than everyone else, and their heavy cruisers make the motion of their cars look very fluid. i call this cop maneuver "sliding". if youve ever driven a crown vic you would understand that once you bring it up to speed, it basically rolls like its on magnets. the power steering is also very efficient on crown victorias due to the heavy front bias. you can essentially move the wheel like you were moving your computer mouse and the car follows.
>they see something odd and they chase after it, then play with it a little bit before letting it go
>they see something tasty (aka a clear conviction) and they chase after it, then rip it apart looking for more tasty goods
>they like to be petted, but only sometimes; you cant always sweet talk a roadside stop, but sometimes they feel generous
>they have guns; cats have claws
though cats dont claw innocent black men to death in the southeast
HEYOOO

I honestly don't know how tolerance factors into the whole thing. Apparently there have been people drinving Porsches on German autobahns at well over 5 % BAC, but that really shouldn't encourage you, Anon. The thing is, if you're an alcoholic, you might be tolerant to alcohol but you're likely fucked up in various other ways and when all is said and done, you are simply not sober.

Just take a cab. It might cost a little, but it's comfy, you can talk to the driver if you want to, and you know you'll reach your destiny safely.

Hey, im the guy who posted the link
I agree with you, when you have had drinks you are nowhere near you sobriety skill level. But, the chart doesn't necessarily state the only safe level is zero zero. Clearly the MOST safe level is zero zero, but for heavier people and those with greater alcohol tolerance, one or two drinks does not severely affect their driving skills. It would be more likely for a sober distracted driver to have an accident than a completely concentrated driver who has had 1 or 2 drinks.

But, I don't see an argument here. Are you pushing for more strict DUI laws?
If you are, consider the sentencing crisis of the 1990s. Crack was on the rise, and the sentence was 100 times harsher than that of plain cocaine. Many people went to prison for life without parole. But, did the demand for crack stop? No, it did not. There were thousands of imprisonments enforcing brutally extreme mandatory minimum sentences for minor drug crimes, merely because they were repeat offenders.

It has been proven that in the united states, the deterrent force of the law has not been successful in drug related crimes. alcohol is a drug. If we really want to cut down dui related deaths we need to focus on denunciation and rehabilitation. Deterrence and separation are band aid solutions at the most.

There has to be more media exposure, just like with tobacco denunciation. Driving while impaired hurts people the same way tobacco smoke does. Secondly, we have to remove the stigma from AA and create more specialized health groups to support drunk drivers.

And no, of course not. Rallying takes much more focus. for one, you have a copilot whos shouting instructions at you all the time, and you have to see the upcoming turn and consider your co pilots information. then you take the turn and your brain mixes your gut feel of the car and your co pilots info and you just blend. i could do it while intoxicated but i would have to go much slower

i have done a few amateur demolition derbys while i was nicely buzzed, but it was between friends

think of it like this
maybe your a student, or a chef, or something
you wouldnt get drunk while studying, or taking a test, or preparing a meal for a famous critic. but you would surely get drunk when youre shooting the shit with your buds about things you learned in school, or making a meal for yourself and maybe even a girlfriend or whatever

but rallying is very different from city or even highway driving. if you have had a few drinks, you can safely make it home by being alert and following an extremely safe distance from the car ahead of you as insurance. im talking 10 to 12 seconds here. at highways speeds, 5-6 seconds is considered safe for a sober driver, hence the double distance when drunk.

also remember that the greatest threat to yourself comes from behind, so always check your mirror. if somebody is following closely you have two options: pull over to the right lane, or if you are in the rightmost lane just let off the gas until your are going retarded slow and they will pass you
but, like in my earlier post, all the rules change when ur drunk driving. at that point you want to look inconspicuous

lots of things are fun until you kill someone. like that time my friend jumped off the cliff into the lake. or when my and my buddy played chicken with the train as kds. or when we used to throw snowballs at the cars on the expressway.

texting and driving is just as dangerous and impairing as drinking and driving, but why don't you see the outrage about that? lots of things are dangerous, especially when you're maneuvering a 3000 pound piece of steel at speeds upwards of 70mph. change the radio? driving while impaired can kill you aka running into a tree, and can hurt those around you aka running into other vehicles/pedestrians

>they two completely different things
yes and no. they are mostly unrelated activities, but they often have the same outcome: death of one's self or innocent bystanders.
you may believe they are completely unrelated, but ultimately they do have very similar consequences, and should be advertised as such.

tobacco and driving impaired both cause death. tobacco causes very widespreadt death, and therefor the media presents negative advertising regarding tobacco. since impaired driving also causes death, the media should create more awareness through negative advertising regarding impaired driving

yea not the guy you're responding to, but you're still retarded

Most of the consequences for smoking tobacco are personal, i.e. you kill yourself. Second and third hand smoke account for a small percentage of the deaths from that activity

Drunk driving on the other hand, is considerably more heinous because instead of killing yourself, you kill other completely innocent people for no reason other than the fact that you wanted to drive home. It is essentially the same as getting angry and shooting someone, in that you had no premeditated intentions of doing it, but because of your lack of control, you shot somebody. That is why if you killed somebody drunk driving, you'd face manslaughter charges

Personally I like think that drunk drivers should lose their licenses for very long period of time

It literally, yes literally, says "Only Safe Driving Limit" on the "0 drinks" row. Also, you really shouldn't sneak in the "or 2 drinks" into your sentences, because again, the table clearly shows everyone under 240 lbs (i.e. everyone that isn't morbidly obese) has significantly impaired driving skills after only 2 drinks. It can also lead some drinkers down a slippery slope, who'll probably think a third drink is ok because they felt no change between #1 and #2.

Alright, this is getting hard. These posts are getting way too long but I'm gonna try to answer sensibly anyway. Please consider I'm pretty drunk and English isn't my first language.

The chart says exactly that. "Only safe driving limit" across the entire first row, which is 0.00 for all weights. I explicitly stated that there is a threshold below which there is no *significant* impairment, but there IS an impairment, no matter how much you weigh. Sure, a guy weighin 100 kg (sorry, Europoor here) will usually barely even notice a shot or a beer, but those are extremes. And even then, if the guy has a beer or a shot on an empty stomach at a gas station and the goes on to driving? It's not that easy.

I'm not pushing for any laws here because this is an international board. I very much agree with you on the fact that harsh anti-drug laws are in no way a solution, but part of the problem at large. Still, you're jumping from DUI laws to possession/usage laws, which is an entirely different matter. But again, I'm not pushing for laws. I'm writing these posts because some Anons here asked for input on their drink-and-drive behaviour. In my opinion, there's enough shit we have to put up with, driving drunk is just an unnecessary risk for ourselves and others.

And no, driving while impaired does not hurt people the same way tobacco smoke does. That is a false equivalence. But I agree in part; people who need support should have the opportunity to get it. I don't believe in AA though. They've helped a lot of people, but ultimately, I would like to see them replaced.

>if you have had a few drinks, you can safely make it home by being alert and following an extremely safe distance from the car ahead
See, that's exactly what every drunk driver ever tells themselves.

>texting and driving is just as dangerous and impairing as drinking and driving, but why don't you see the outrage about that?
There should be a lot more outrage about it. I can only speak for my country, but if you're on your phone while driving, you'll incur a hefty fine.
Changing the radio or turning down the heat are not the same. Looking into your glovebox is dangerous, and if police spot you doing it, I'm sure they'll check you out, but it's hard to enforce. Doesn't make it any less wrong.

your first scenario presents the self risk of smoking tobacco. impaired driving also poses a self risk. therefore there should be more negative advertising regarding impaired driving.

and if you were impaired when you ran over that kid then that presents the point of harming others during impaired driving, furthermore, more negative advertisement against drunk driving.

your argument seems very narrow. It seems like you just want to prove that tobacco and impaired driving dont cause the same amount of harm. and they dont, you are right. tobacco kills many more people.

tobacco kills more people than impaired driving, i wasnt arguing that it didnt.
all im pushing for is that due to the fact that tobacco has health effects on users and bystanders, and that impaired driving has health effects on users and bystanders, there should be more awareness discouraging impaired driving via negative advertising, similar to how negative advertising is used against tobacco

you still really seem like you just want to pick a fight about nothing :/

Rally guy here

Finally the sane man returns lol

There is certainly an impairment. But we have to consider the driver's experience, tolerance, and activity.
There's a very big difference between a 17 year old noob driver having two beers, driving through a busy city at rush hour, and a 50 year old man having two beers at a quiet pub then driving back to his home on a quiet country road
And maybe even consider me, i've driven on nearly a fifth of bourbon and screamed down the highway on a buddy's moto at around 5pm, never putting a soul in danger except myself.

And that's where my tobacco reference comes into play. Sure, there are lots of times where impaired drivers hurt others. But we all know the majority of impaired drivers are just driving themselves home after a night. At that time of night they are much more likely to run off the road and hurt themselves than another. Im not saying the risk of tobacco smoking and drunk driving are the same, but they certainly are in the same ballpark of risk

To your first quote
that's not what every drunk driver tells themselves. That is what a conscious, somewhat intoxicated driver tells themselves. and if they keep telling themselves that theyre ok. but most drivers lose focus, and not because theyre drunk, but because even when theyre sober they never really focus on things like the distance between the cars ahead and behind them, their escape routes, etc. what dangerous drunk drivers think is "im steeeeve fuking mcqueen. lets go for a rip and grab some burgers bro" dangerous drunk drivers always treat driving like a game. they speed, weave, brake hard and accelerate hard. all of which are dangerous for other drivers ahead and behind, not to mention the drunk him(or her)self

to your second quote
distracted driving is terrible. law is lenient because distracted drivers can stop being distracted, drunks cant (plus statistics of drunk causes deaths)

My mom was always one to drink, just all day. She was always pleasant, and it never really seemed to be a problem, health- or life-wise.
Now she's verging on liver failure.
I won't give any lecture stuff because that's not my place.

However, coming from someone who's helping take care of someone who spent a lifetime drinking?

Liver failure is awful in ways no one ever tells you unless you ask.

I'm a binge drinker. I don't drink a lot or often, but in a situation where there's no limit to what I can drink I will get blind drunk and fuck up. When I was younger I drive while wasted on 2 or 3 of these occasions, with no memory of it at all in the morning. Fucking scary. I learned to keep away from occasions where drink flows freely and to never have a drink when I have my car with me. I still fuck up occasionally and black out but I shiver in alley until I'm sober and alert enough to find another way home.

If you're an alcohol the point at which you decide to drink with your car nearby is the moment you become a potential killer.

>> No.6028139

I recently got my license, but I've been brought up rather responsibly around alcohol. Not to say I can't drink like a fish (ausfag, reporting in) but I tread maturely around alcohol.

I get anxious after I finish half a glass of champagne and then suddenly realize a) someone has to drive these people home and b) I've had the least to drink, making me the de facto designated driver.
Like, well, shit oops. I'll hang around for an hour and drink soft drinks until it passes through my system.

Are you retarded you stupid old fuck?

Texting and driving isn't the same as drinking and driving because you're not texting the entire fucking time you're behind the wheel from the time you turn the key in the ignition to when you shut the car off. You can choose to put down your phone if you almost crash. You can't choose to sober up if the same thing happens.

Driving drunk is inherentlty fucking retarded and you deserve everything the justice system will throw at you when you get caught. Enjoy thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours wasted on fines, community service, and alcohol treatment programs.

I don't even know why I bothered replying. You're too fucking stupid to take this seriously enough to even consider not drunk driving, so there's really no point.

Ey maties, had 32 oz. of PBR early in the evening last night and it didn't phase me one bit. I didn't have anything more, and i'm cutting it all out for the rest of the week; maybe a bit on Thursday, some for a Friday night party, but generally have to cut back because I feel like my dopamine/seretonin levels are fucked. I am not having the wild and deep depressions I did about two months ago after drinking a shit load in Europe, but I've developed these really dark circles under my eyes. I look like a zombie. I didn't have these before. I think it's just incremental chips away at my quality of sleep over a year or two that has put these on my face. I look like shit, so that's helping me try to clean up. I've taken up Counter Strike GO to give me adrenaline rushes during the night and I've got an 8th of decent weed, so I'm getting the fuck out of this bottle before Christmas comes and pours me back in. The weed high isn't even as strong anymore, and I know it's because my dopamine is fucked. Exercise helps for that, especially cardio, and my diet needs to replace the calories from the alcohol with real nutrition and calories.

Also, I can't find any of my favorite seasonal beers, stouts, etc.. at any stores nearby, and I'm sick of lagers and pilsners.

Well there's your problem. Switch to hard liquor. I can drink a 12 pack in 2 hours and get almost no buzz out of it, unless it's very high abv% beer

What sucks is going out with people and not being able to slam as many beers as you want as fast as you want because ohhh what an alcoholic jeez

I used to drink before class. Once I went through the whole two hour lecture and didn't retain a single piece of information. The other time it was before a test I didn't really study for. Instead of sucking it up and finishing my drunk mind said fuck this and I walked out. I need to quit.

Yup. I went to a bar last week and had to drink before hand just to keep from drinking too fast. Even then I hated just sipping my beer. Wtf drink faster people.

Yeah I'd rather not dig my self deeper, already went through a phase drinking a bottle of cheap vodka every other day a few years ago.

Yeah I've been there, last time I went out with friends to a bar some random girl who I only know through one of my friends said "You drink like a fish, maybe its time for AA - ha ha"... Kinda sucks that eeven though it was a joke still hurt pretty bad.

I'm going to cut back soon hopefully, my body is hurting, I'm sickly and pale looking, even my family is starting to notice that the alcohol is taxing me too much.

My dream. Can't currently afford it though.

Here we have this one vodka, cant remember the name, some polish brand I think. It's $8.99 a 1.5liter bottle.

That stuff seriously caused havoc on my body though, kidneys and liver felt like there were swollen inside for a while.

does it really make you feel shittier than higher quality booze? I've never really drank "rotgut"

I start to feel like shit after binging on decent quality stuff for a while, pretty sure my organs would jump ship if they could
