no but one time when I was in high school I got really stoned and decided I wanted to try a double cheeseburger from all the places.

What is wrong with this? I worked at Wendy's and made the chili. Any burger that sits on the grill for too long gets put into a bag and frozen. When needed, the patties are put into a pot and simmer for several hours, rehydrating the meat. I think it was a great way of reducing scrap. I seem to remember the gimmick being that the meat is never frozen. That is true if you get a hamburger. But if you get the chili, the meat has been frozen and thawed. It never bothered me. I would be in the back chopping it into chili size chunks and popping a few of them in my mouth in the process. I always hear people talk about how they would never eat at a particular place after having worked there. Nothing about my experience at Wendy's made me feel like that.

In fact Wendy's is one of the only sandwich making fast food shops I'll still eat at after working there.

They have a walk in cooler. No freezer.
And burning the patties? how the fuck?
The cooking table is a giant piece of metal and you can spread out like 30 patties at a time, season flip, then off into the warmer.

Only patties that sat in the warmer too long were moved into the cooler for the next days chili batch.
Also, everything else for the chili is canned, which adds more to my sense of 'this is impossible to fuck up' feeling and makes me more comfy ordering chili than an actual burger from Wendy's.

Please understand. Wendy's has a flat grill, there is nothing to close. I'll go over this again since you missed my last post apparently. When meat is placed upon a hot surface it cooks. But if it cooks too long, it will begin to burn. You rarely get a burnt patty on your burger because there is a constant rotation of meat on the grill. But what if nobody is coming in? Then the meat will be on the grill for a long time without anyone to order it. If this meat does burn, it is set aside for chili meat. But remember, there is a rotation of meat so that once you do come in, a fresh burger should be ready for you.

Can you tell me how you manage to keep any type of meat on any type of heat source from burning when you leave it on there for way longer than it should be?

Well, ideally you cook it to order. That should be obvious.
But other options are to keep it cooked and warm, then sear it off when someone orders. Or if you can't even do that much, you move the patties to a cooler portion of the grill as needed.

I used to like Wendys when I didn't like condiments on my burgers. Now I do and I don't.

I want big slices of onion and tomato. Their vegetables are always really cold to the point that they cool off the burger and that's no good.
